Things to do in Southwold

Southwold is a delightful town in Suffolk located on the North Sea coast. There's plenty of beach here, a vibrant seaside feel and an isolated lighthouse that invites you to explore further.

Love visiting the seaside? Well, Southwold is packed with great attractions and that strong coastal identity. A highlight is the fantastic Southwold Pier with its Under The Pier show. Take a walk along the pier, explore the shops and enjoy beachy snacks, like the crispy fish and chips on offer at The Boardwalk - a tasty cafe.

Once you've licked the salt from your fingers, catch some serious sun or take a stroll along Southwold's beach with its line of colourful beach huts. Dogs are welcome to run and play here and behind is the sweep of a Victorian promenade. Don't miss a tour of Southwold Lighthouse which offers unbeatable views of the Suffolk Heritage Coast. It has stories to tell of lost mariners and dark, stormy voyages.

Feeling thirsty? A tour of Adnams brewery or distillery will quench your thirst for both refreshments and knowledge. Here you can discover the process behind making beers or spirits and tuck into a tasting session put on by the professionals.

After all that fun, turn your attention to local culture - Southwold also has great museums. Discover the fascinating stories and history in the Alfred Corry Lifeboat Museum and Southwold Sailors' Reading Room. The reading room was designed as a way to keep off-duty sailors out of pubs and is packed with nuggets of maritime history. Also don't miss the interesting displays and interactive exhibits at the Southwold Museum and Historical Society.

Visitors who want a blast of adrenaline will love a thrilling boat trip on the speedy Coastal Voyager. The rides on offer include the Sea Blast, trips out to get close to seals and wind farms or 'the drive of your life' trip, featuring 400 horse power at full throttle. Or, if you're up for a challenge and have the family with you, make time to explore the excellent Southwold Maize Maze. We're talking jumping pillows, go-karts and swings, in the beautiful Reydon Marshes.

Sightseers who want to explore beyond Southwold have many interesting choices nearby. The beautiful Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve, Benacre National Nature Reserve and Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB are enticing, fulfilling the needs of all outdoorsy types. The towns of Woodbridge, Aldeburgh and Orford are also well worth visiting too.
