Things to do in Ipswich
Ipswich is one of Suffolk's largest towns, deservedly popular thanks to being close to the coast and offering a swanky waterfront area with great views.
Soak up the cool waterside feeling with a browse of the bars, shops and restaurants at the marina - it looks even better as the sun sets.
And if you feel like taking a dip, you need the Crown Pools Leisure Centre. It's got a cracking wave machine for the kiddies, water jets, a frog slide for you to hop down and more.
Then take the fun back on land, nipping to the Partyman World of Play to wriggle and slither through its innovative play facilities and karting. You might even get to sneak in a cheeky bit of learning for the kids too, they have maths and English sessions and educational challenges.
Other notable buildings include the Mill which is the tallest building in East Anglia, the East Suffolk County Hall, and several medieval churches, the most prominent being St Mary's. The Wills building is located in the centre of town -a stunning glass structure that is well worth a look.
Step back in time with a look through the Tudor kitchen and lavish rooms at Christchurch Mansion, and it also houses the grandest collection of Constable's work outside of London - so come and see the master's work!
Just outside the centre is Chantry Park - an adventure playground with 124 acres, a bowling green and beautiful protected wildlife areas. Christchurch Park is its closest rival, dating all the way back to 1895 and today known for its wooded areas, tennis courts and tasty refreshments.
Is that all sounding a bit tame? Alton Water Sports Park is perfect for windsurfing, canoeing and much more or you can put your pedal to the metal at the Anglia Indoor Karting Centre. Swoop down the slopes at the Suffolk Ski Centre and then pack on the pounds you've burnt off at the Suffolk Food Hall and Jimmy's Farm with its wildlife experiences and tasty fresh farm fare.
Ready to smile until the cows come home? You're in for a treat at the Baylham House Farm where you'll meet its rare breeds and endangered species - and the kids can even spend the day as a farmer.
Further afield you can head into the countryside and explore the coastline - Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB offers lovely beaches and an unspoilt landscape. Colchester is also close by so come say hello to the spooks in its ancient castle or walk on the wild side at Colchester Zoo.
