Things to do in Banbury
Soon after arriving in Banbury, head to Broughton Castle. Admire the gardens and meadows surrounding the castle until you’re ready to head in and see the Great Hall as well as the King’s Chamber – once home to Edward VII when he was Prince of Wales!
After you’ve finished exploring the castle, take the kids back to the town centre for an afternoon at People’s Park. Grab your rackets for a game of tennis before setting down for a picnic by the rose garden.
Alternatively, wander through the pretty scenery at Upton House and Gardens. Stroll from the house and take the ‘Shenington Round’ walk for stunning views of the countryside after you’ve soaked up the history of Lord Bearsted’s home.
In the evening, top the family leaderboard at MFA Bowl Banbury. Pick your lane and line yourself up for the perfect strike in a fun game of tenpin bowling - there are gutter guards for beginners too. When you’ve finished, grab a bite at the café or treat yourself to a pint or two.
For the animal lovers in the family, pay a visit to Waterfowl Sanctuary and Children’s Farm. Youngsters will love the ‘Cuddle Corner’ where they can meet and feed the baby animals such as rabbits and goats. Afterwards, take the kids to the sanctuary’s playground and watch them mess about on the tractor.
If the sun isn’t shining, take the little ones to the Rugrats and Halfpints indoor play centre. Youngsters can jump into the ball pit and ride down the slides whilst older members of the family can catch their breath with a bite at the café.
To soak up a bit of local history, head to the Banbury Museum. Walk through one of the exhibitions before admiring the view of the Oxford canal whilst tucking into a sandwich at the museum café.
Beer enthusiasts should check out Cats Brewing Co. to taste some of the local tipples. Take a tour of this micro-brewery nestled in the countryside before sampling the local beers, ciders and more.
For a day trip out of the town, head to the city buzz at Oxford and look round the castle or stroll along the beautiful gardens surrounding Stoneleigh Abbey at Coventry.
