Things to do in Tintagel
Sightseers are sure to be fascinated by a visit to the beautiful ruins of Tintagel Castle, reputed to be the birthplace of King Arthur. Maintained by English Heritage to allow visitors to learn about both history and legend, the castle ruins are an absolute must see when in Cornwall.
There are some great sea views from here too!
Tintagel Beach, located directly below the castle, is a tiny sandy beach. Disappearing at high tide, the beach is a great spot for a quick a dip in the water - and don't forget to explore Merlin's Cave and the tunnel which reaches under the island and castle.
King Arthur's Great Halls are a wonderful place for visitors of all ages to feel some British history, and it's also worth exploring the pretty Parish Church of Saint Materiana, which offers lovely views of the surrounding landscape and attractive stained glass windows.
The area around Tintagel is a beautiful place for walks, with plenty of stunning views and photo opportunities on offer while exploring the South West Coast Path. The charming St Nectan's Glen with its pretty waterfall is an area of outstanding natural beauty and a lovely place to spend some time, while the Rocky Valley walk is also fantastic, with a moderate route that leads through stunning scenery to the sea.
Sightseers will be charmed by the Old Post Office, a National Trust property dating from the 14th century, and the kids will love stopping off at the Tintagel Toy Museum & Collector's Shop for a holiday souvenir.
Nearby, discover the picturesque Trebarwith Strand Beach (note it is completely covered during high tide so don’t get caught out!), Polzeath (famous for its excellent surfing conditions) and the ruggedly beautiful Bodmin Moor.
