About Penhale Camping and Caravan Park

Steeped in history and rugged Cornish charm, family-run Penhale Caravan and Camping Park has provided quality caravan and camping holidays for over 60 years. Stay here for the chance to unwind while exploring the magical surrounding area. In spring and summertime, colourful blooms cover the trees, a plethora of different species of birds swoop over the fields, and the hedgerows burst into life with wild flowers. At night, the lack of light pollution makes for some awe-inspiring star-gazing, while the lights of Mevagissey twinkle in the distance over the bay. Popular with families, couples and solo travellers alike, guests can choose between a selection of large and level electric hook-up pitches, all with breathtaking views across St Austell bay, or self catering accommodation in the site's caravan holiday homes. The two and three bedroom holiday homes sleep 4-8 people, with modern facilities, heating, fully equipped kitchens, and free gas and electricity. Outside some caravans have a wooden decked area, while all have a family-sized picnic bench and ample space for parking. There is also a regular camping field, with plenty of space to spread out and no overcrowding.

Motorhome - Electric Grass PitchesSep 2024

Location is good. However, although it is close to the Town of Fowey, it is not an an easy commute. A bus will drop you at the top of Fowey on the outskirts of the town and unless you are capable of dealing with walking up and down steep hills, you will need to get the minibus from the car park where the bus stops at an additional £2.70. A cab ride into Fowey from the site, which is less than a five minute ride, was £12.00 each way! For some reason all requests for an Uber fare, which would have been half the price, were never picked up. I carry a leg injury which causes balance issues and I found the pathways around the campsite really difficult to deal with. If I visit again I would try and get pitch as close to the shower block as possible. The shower block and toilets although dated are spotless. Showers are the push and hold the button type and the button stays in for about five seconds after letting go of it. Once released, the water stops. Site is maintained well with some lovely flower beds and the pitches are big with both water and electric hook up. The field we were in each pitch is separated by a small side fence which I liked. Almost all pitches have a sea view. The best of these views is gained the higher up the site you stay. Very good for dogs lots of space to walk them. Never came across the site owners so can't comment on that aspect. We were in a motorhome and although we have a long water hose, it wasn't long enough to use on the pitch without a lot of moving of the vehicle. I would recommend filling up with water at the parking bay for new arrivals, this eliminating the need for a very long hose.

Sprinter-Type Campervan - Electric Grass PitchesSep 2024

A nice private site, clean tidy and was good for our requirements. I thought, a little expensive, not sure why its necessary to charge £1 per dog per night, maybe thats to empty the dog waste bin? What was disappointing was that its quite clear by website and signs that dogs should be on a leads. We love dogs, but one became a bit of a nuisance and kept turning up from the bottom campsite. There were others we saw that, although friendly, did bound up to children playing and frightened them. No-one around to gently enforce the rules. Hairdryer in the ladies didn't work. If it's there it should work, free or not. Some of the pitches were fenced off, to stop walking though. Ours wasn't and we just had campers walking through our pitch without much thought. I found this rude, bad etiquette and invasive, especially as we paid £29 per night. Maybe to fence them all off would be an idea as each time a walker passed though our pitch, our dogs barked, causing unappreciated noise. We would stay again but definitely request a fenced off pitch.

Medium Tent - Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

We were fortunate enough to have a single, hedged pitch with gorgeous views of the sea. It had an electric hook up and its own fresh water tap. The site is a working farm, but a relaxed family campsite and helpful friendly staff who are available by text or phone. We were near the toilet block (which was not a problem) but the hand dryer in the ladies is beyond loud and kept us awake, as it was in use on and off throughout the night. Very old fashioned showers that turn off every 10 seconds, but always had hot water. The camp suited us as it was quiet by 10:00pm. Thank you for allowing us to leave a bit later, James.
