Another great picnic spot can be found at Caversham Court. After you’ve eaten, walk around the beautiful gardens by the riverside.
When you’ve finished walking by the river, why not take a boat cruise over the River Thames. With a number of different types of day trips you can enjoy journeying over the river for as little or as long as you’d like.
For a bit of exploration on land, take the Reading Mystery treasure trail. See if you can solve all the clues of this trail as each one leads you to different areas within Reading. Perfect for keeping the kids occupied while also discovering interesting facts about the town.
If the kids are looking for a physical challenge, head to the Reading Climbing Centre. Book in for a casual session and see how high you can go.
Young outdoor enthusiasts will love a day at Wellington Country Park. The site has adventure play areas with zip wires, slides, climbing frames and more. Little ones can also enjoy playing in the toddler areas. There’s even an animal farm where you can meet ponies and goats.
More outdoor adventures can be had at Dinton Pastures Country Park. Take a trail around the lakes, mess around in the play park or take part in a round of adventure golf.
Budding birdwatchers should visit the Feathers and Fur Falconry Centre. Meet the owls and falcons and have the chance to take part in a hawk walk experience.
After meeting the animals, soak up the town’s past at the Reading Museum. Walk around the exhibits and discover more about Reading’s 1000 year history. Admire the displays of artefacts all for free as there’s no entry fee!
Alternatively, admire the ceramics found in the Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology. Kids can learn about ancient history as they find the impressive collections from Egypt as well as the Romans.
Older members of the family can try a tipple at Bingham’s Brewery. Take a two hour tour and discover how real ale is made. You even get a Bingham’s pint glass to take home with you after the tour is over.
When you’ve finished exploring the town, drive to the extravagant halls at Windsor Castle or enjoy a day at the races at Ascot.
