Wick River Campsite is the perfect spot to explore the beauty of the Caithness countryside situated along the riverbanks in a peaceful, secluded part of Wick. Tents and tourers are welcome across the site's range of electric and non electric grass and hardstanding pitches. Conveniently located along the NC500 route and just a ten minute walk into the town of Wick and to the coast, you will be in a prime location for exploring the Highlands.

Excellent. The facilities were amazing! First time campervanners and our hook up lead wasn't long enough, rookie mistake! No problem, staff very helpful and let us borrow one for our stay.

Park located next to the river, a short stroll into town, not much there to see. Pub is fine for a drink and a bite to eat. Campsite is well laid out with a relaxed atmosphere, the new toilet block wasn't open yet so we had temp toilets and showers, which were ok. Facilities will be 5 star when they are open. A good place to stop for a night while doing the Nc500.

The site was lovely and the facilities were okay, but the clientele were not as respectful of the facilities as they should be. I felt sorry for whoever's job it was to clean them. They are having a brand new shower block built. Let's just hope that the paying customers are more respectful of this and leave it clean, ready for whoever needs to use it following them. Can't fault the owner, really nice gentleman and very obliging.
Love this campsite!

I really do like this site. Easy to find, easy check in, great layout, spanking new shower & toilet facilities. A fully serviced site right next to the river. Electric points, grass or hard plots, dog friendly, everything you could need. Site manager, so friendly and very helpful.

Mostly flat site on the bank of the river. We had to use alternative entrance due to low railway bridge on main approach. Friendly welcome. A 10 minute stroll along the river brings you into Wick centre. The site is tidy and the facilities spotless. Don’t be put off by the temporary facilities-they are excellent.

The campsite was fine, although the facilities block was not finished but there was only two porta blocks for the whole site. The weather wasn't good either.
Site's response
I am glad you enjoyed your stay overall. Our new facilities block is very close to completion and will have more than 6 toilets and 6 showers for the site. Unfortunately in Scotland, you can see all four seasons in one day, my fingers are crossed for a week of sunshine in July.
Nice campsite

Nice little site but there are loads of rabbit holes which wasn't brilliant when camping in a tent. I did go down one when getting out the tent and twisted my ankle. Toilets are clean but had no soap. Glad they had showers but they were too hot for the kids. Had a small play area, that's a bonus, but wasn't suitable for my 2yr old. Found a park 2-3 minute walk from camp. Nice site overall.
Site's response
Hello Olivia, I'm sorry to hear you hurt your ankle, we make every effort to maintain the rabbit holes, there are a lot of wild rabbits on the site and the surrounding area. The showers are on a thermostatic dial just like household showers, it would just need to be turned down if it's too hot. Unfortunately our play area is for 4 - 12 year old children as the signs state but, as you found, there is a larger play area just a short walk along the river.
Very disappointing

We've just done the NC55 this was the poorest site. Facilities were poor, felt it was very poor value for money and would not stay again or recommend.
Should be great

Nice location, within easy walking of Wick along the river. Pretty little site. Downside for us was that the new shower block wasn't finished and so temporary toilets and showers were being used, with only 3 of each. There were quite a few people on the site and not really enough facilities. The new block looked really nice and I'm sure when that is completed fairly soon that this will be a great place to stay.
Fantastic price and a fantastic atmosphere

What an amazing place that had a very peaceful atmosphere. Great for stopping by, along with a very cheap price. Unfortunately, the local pubs were average, but peaceful, which was really nice after travelling.

The campsite is situated in an extremely pleasant spot by the river, with a pleasant walk into Wick for eating and shopping. Rabbits were running around darting out of sight when people appeared. The campsite had a quiet, very pleasant atmosphere, with friendly, helpful staff. Whilst the new shower block build was delayed, for which the staff apologised, the temporary showers and toilets were acceptable. We ware particularly pleased to stay at the site given that it is community run.

Really lovely site. Well spaced out, really clean and peaceful. Temporary facilities really clean. Service was excellent. A great example of how to run a campsite!

Lovely campsite. Will be even better when toilet block is finished. Walks for dogs and river which is never enough for swimming dogs (mine).

The alternative route is signposted but at first glance doesn't look suitable for motorhomes to drive along it, but it definitely is. Don't be put off, it gets wider as you drive along next to the river to the site. A new amenities area is being finished off at the moment, but the temporary shower and toilets are fine. We booked a second night to do the Whiskey tour 25 minutes walk away from the site. Would definitely recommend this site.

This was easily one of the best campsites we stayed at on our NC500 route. Although new facilities were being built at the campsite, the temporary ones they had were very clean and well looked after. The campsite is in a lovely location overlooking the river, where if you walk two minutes down you get a beautiful sunset. The staff were super friendly and gave us some awesome recommendations for the NC500 that we hadn’t heard of before. Definitely stay here if you are passing through.
