Escape to Crake Trees Manor, in the beautiful northern Yorkshire Dales, with views of the Pennines, the Howgills and the Lake District Fells. Camping pitches are within wildflower meadows, whilst the glamping pods look over the organic fields. The farm rears rare breed grazing cattle and sheep, plus free range pigs. The campsite is peaceful with no pitch parking, yet close to individual heated showers and a community kitchen.

Camping Pod - Camping Pods (Dog Friendly)Aug 2024

Great location, run by friendly hosts. Pods were spacious and comfortable with private outdoor area with fire pit, which made for very picturesque evenings!

Trying to be too many things at once!

Small Tent - Wild Meadow Grass Pitches (Two People)Aug 2024

We stayed for 4 nights at the start of August. The campsite was lovely and the shower blocks and kitchen facilities were great. However, there were a few things that occurred during our stay that we weren't expecting. Firstly, the advice in the booking email said not to bring many perishables, however, this is unrealistic when camping. As we found out during our stay, this is because they have free roaming pigs and sheep in the same field as the tents. This is a lovely idea in principle however, not very practical considering when you camp, you want to bring your own food and have it close to where you're sleeping. Secondly, owners of the campsite were friendly and keen to help and provide advice on what they thought we should do with our time whilst on holiday. However, this was always done at our tent side this sometimes making it feel like an invasion of our privacy. As lovely as this was, we felt slightly judged when we said we were going to Windermere to go kayaking as they likened this to Blackpool. Nonetheless we went to Windermere and had a lovely day. Finally, we travelled up from London to the Lakes to seek a peaceful and quiet getaway and we figured as Crake Manor Farm sells itself as 'peaceful grassland meadow' that this would fit the bill. However, on the Saturday evening in a barn conversion on the campsite, we were met with a loud Ibiza classics night. It was lovely to see the local community and other campers getting involved and having such a nice time in a lovely setting. However, the music was quite loud until 10:30pm and extremely close to the tents, which meant trying to fall asleep after a long days walking was less than ideal. Overall a lovely place to stay however, worth checking the schedule if you wish to avoid a noisy Saturday night camping! Thanks!

Site's response

Ahh, I now know who these 2 girls are now. Well it sounds like they had a great time. Firstly, everyone has information emailed regarding "what's on" at Crake Trees. All visitors are prompted to look at our Instagram posts to really see what we are up to (free range pigs, working farm, cumbrian friendliness, country music) so you were amply informed, girls. Secondly, they pitched their tent actually on a public footpath that goes along a short stretch of the campsite. Also, everyone going to the shower blocks or wandering round the 5 acre camping field had to walk right past their tent. I personally asked them if they really wanted to pitch in that particular place, when the rest of the campsite has more private pitches, they said "no thanks, we love it here." Well obviously, they were girls who enjoyed loud noise, beating music and crowds (Windermere in August). As above, all visitors have full access to information. The live music which we have in the Combine Shed (not a converted barn) each weekend in July and August plays from 7:30 to 10pm. All is finished for quiet time which is from 10:30pm. But, you know what, we are so joyful having a campsite and glamping site busy and full of happy families, couples and single travellers. Two very glum and haughty people maybe just made a poor holiday choice, and that's a real pity.

Lovely weekend!

Camping Pod - Camping Pods (Dog Friendly)Aug 2024

We had a great stay at the campsite. Between our family we had a motorhome, tent and one of the pods. We all loved it. Facilities basic, but everything you need. Site is remote, but there is a bar and live music on site if you want entertainment. Enjoyed our stay very much!

Absolutely perfect

Medium Tent - Wild Meadow Grass Pitches (Two People)Aug 2024

Just arrived home after the most perfect stay! We loved it that much we stayed an extra two nights. The site is lovely! It's a great touch how the camping field is kept as natural and the animals are always about to say hello. Mike and Ruth always made time to talk when you saw them, you can definitely see the hard work Mike, Ruth and family have put into the farm. The showers, toilets and kitchen areas are a perfect touch, I can not fault anything! Oh and I cannot forget to add breakfast was amazing too brought to our tent at 9 and very nice including the music and food they put on on Saturday. Amazing site, definitely will be back. Thank you so much :) Ellie and Callum.

Clean showers and kitchen. Food van on site. The nearest shop is a Co-op in a nearby village so bring essentials. Bit of a drive to the nearest lake but there's plenty of walks near by.

Super stay

Lovely position, with great views and short walk to a community owned pub with really good food. Very quiet, with warm loos/showers, which were an extra delight on a rainy and chilly Bank Holiday weekend. Hosts were very friendly. Lovely walks directly from the site. Lots of birdlife to enjoy.

The owners were lovely and very helpful - they gave us lots of the history of the local area and some recommendations on where to visit. They were also very quick to respond to any messages! The facilities were simple and perfect for camping - exactly what we were after! There was a kitchen, showers, toilets and most importantly a field to camp in with glorious views. We would definitely recommend this place. We visited Brougham Castle, Brough Castle, Penrith Castle, Lowther Castle and Pendragon Castle while in the area - lots to do and so much history to learn about!

Great place to camp, at farm

We had a great time at this farm. Our kids loved all the animals (pigs, piglets, sheep, chickens). It is a very big camping field, with all the space you like. The surroundings are beautifull!

It was great thanks

Nicely located campsite with well separated pitches and car free by the tents (and wheelbarrows helpfully provided for transporting kit). Plus, ridiculously cute rare breed piglets venturing onto the camping area.

This campsite is a real gem. The site was well-organised, and the hosts were friendly and approachable. I camped with a friend and chose this site as we were walking the Wainwrights. It proved to be a great find and also just a short drive from the Western Fells. The site is in a beautiful location, quiet and peaceful. Freshly cooked pizza and burgers were on offer each evening, and the atmosphere was family-friendly. Dog friendly too. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you to the hosts.

Spend the bank holiday weekend at this campsite. It is basic but clean and the owners are very friendly. The atmosphere at the site is welcoming, friendly and peaceful. All the campers there say 'hi' to each other. The shower is hot and clean. The kitchen has all the conveniences you would expect, including a kettle, small fridge and freezer. Would definitely stay there again.

Fantastic! We will be back

Camping Pod - Camping Pods (Dog Friendly)Apr 2023

We stayed for one night and could not recommend more. Site owner checked in with us and made sure we had everything we needed within 20 mins of our arrival. Self check was easy to do. Site owner checked in with us in the morning to make sure we had a good night and had recommendations of activities in the local area. Pods are exactly as shown on the pictures and had everything we needed. We will be back!

Medium Tent - Wild Meadow Grass Pitches (Two People)Aug 2022

This campsite is a gem! We loved our stay and will be returning. We loved the mowed out individual pitches in the long grass, even on bank holiday weekend each 'plot' wasn't full. It can be a bit of a walk from the car to pitch with your wheelbarrow but definitely worth it to not have car doors banging and driving around at all hours, adds so much to the peace and tranquillity. Nice that there is a separate field for families too. The pizza/bar just a short walk from the camping meadow creates a lovely atmosphere and the staff are so pleasant and friendly. The shared kitchen is great, the industrial style toilets/showers are fine, never waited for the loo, always hot water. The area is beautiful, the views are stunning, the peace is wonderful, the stars on Saturday were amazing! Can't wait to return, wish we'd found you earlier in the summer!

Camping Pod - Camping Pods (Dog Friendly)Jul 2022

A fantastic site, which is clean and tidy set in an idyllic quiet location. Perfect for a little getaway to refresh and unwind, whilst still being able to explore the lakes easily. It would be really great if each pod had access to a couple of mugs as all other amenities were supplied, but we forgot ours and a cuppa in the morning would have been perfect!

Site's response

Thank you for the review Natasha. We are a family farm and glamping site. I walk around each evening and I am always contactable by phone. If any glampers have a request or comment, we can usually deal with it quickly. So remember to ask- we are here to help!
