A beautiful setting with good walks close by but we felt facilities were poor. Broken toilet seat, loose taps, shower area dirty, washing up station at such an angle that items placed on draining board slid back into the bowl. No minimum distance between pitches so we were somewhat hemmed in by our neighbours. A shame as this is a beautiful location. Will try again in future, maybe this was end of season blues.
Site's response
Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. I am glad to hear you liked our beautiful area. I am sorry to hear you were disappointed by the facilities. Our facilities are indeed very basic - this is a back-to-nature campsite. Despite being basic, we do take great efforts to keep the facilities clean, so I am sorry that you found the cleanliness not up to standard. I can only assume that you caught the facilities after some heavy usage before we had come and done our daily clean. I do hope you come again to enjoy our simple site and stunning rural area.

Great little, quiet spot in the Wye Valley. Good location for day trips out. Campsite has decent, warm showers, wash up area etc. Basic but very adequate.

Lovely campsite in a beautiful location. We enjoyed being able to go for beautiful woodland walks from the campsite, and drove the short distance into Mo mouth to go on a canoe trip down the beautiful River Wye. We will definitely be coming back again.

The location and the site were nice. However, the bathroom and washing up facilities were poor and need replacing. No Wi-Fi whatsoever.
Site's response
I am glad you liked our site and lovely rural location. Our bathroom and washing up facilities are indeed basic, but they are kept clean. We have a trailer with 2 hot showers and 2 flush toilets, and a cold water wash up area. There is indeed no Wi-Fi or phone signal here, making this the ideal spot for a digital detox, to relax in nature and connect with your fellow campers.
The camp site has great views and lots of trees, and is small and friendly.

The owners were welcoming and helpful. There are lots of footpaths nearby for walking, we found a wood 5 mins further on up the road called "Colonel Woods Park" and we walked our dogs every evening. The location is great, we went to the Forest of Dean, Tintern Abbey, Ross-on-Wye and a few other places. There were sheep, goats and chickens too. Its one of the best camp sites I've stayed at. Thank you.

So delighted to hear that ours is one of the best campsites that you have ever stayed at. Thanks Sally. Do come again.

I have rated everything 5 star because everything worked, it's all basic, but all I needed and expected. The site is small, surrounded by lovely countryside. It's quiet apart from the birdsong. I was delighted. The lack of phone signal is a big plus if you wish to disconnect for a while!
Site's response
I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. Do come camping again another time.

The site is extremely rural. Very compact and small. There is no signal at all anywhere near the site or close by and we had to drive out a good 10 minutes to get service. Just something to bear in mind, if like us, you like to plan and see what's about and how far via a phone! Very peaceful, with good facilities and excellent showers! We didn't speak or see the owners at all. It would have been good if we had seen them for info on local areas/walks etc. A little boy (owner's son) Xavier I think, was lovely. He ran to us and got us some freshly pressed apple juice! We wanted more but saw nobody to get it :( An overall relaxing stay. A lovely view and the stars came out! Loved the goats and sheep too! Would say it is an ideal stay for walkers! Monmouth town is only 10 minutes away, but central to many places! Great stay!!

Thanks for the review, Claire. So glad you enjoyed our rural campsite, our local walks and starry skies. Do come again. Pop down to our house and we can give you lots of tips on local walks (many to nice pubs!).

Fantastic location in Wales on a small holding. This campsite has toilets and hot showers. There's no pitches just find your own space. If this is your style of camping then you'll enjoy this campsite. It's on a slight hill but this is totally manageable and worth it for the beautiful setting.

So glad you enjoyed our simple back-to-nature campsite. Do come again.

Owner was extremely helpful ahead of our visit by email and phone. This meant we could find the site and our pitch easily. It was particularly appreciated as we were arriving late and in bad weather. The site is set in a delightful out of the way, rural location. Very quiet and rustic. Facilities might be seen as 'quirky' to some but were fully functional, clean and with lots of hot water. The ground slopes in parts but this was not a problem for us. We had a level pitch with hook-up. Really lovely stay. Lots of character and rustic charm. Thank you.

We are two friends who hadn't seen each other in a while and fancied a catch up out in the peace and quiet. This was the perfect place. The price point was perfect. We stayed "off-season" but over a weekend. The price reflected this perfectly. Louise was lovely and kind and so helpful. We felt we could pop down to her house, if and when we needed anything at all. The site is well signposted and Louise sent great and easy to follow directions to support us too. The site is part of a small holding with an apple orchard. We bought some apple juice off of Louise and it was one of the highlights of the trip - not too sweet, and tasted of the juiciest apples! Another major positive for us was the convenience of the facilities. We've stayed at some sites where it was a short trek to fill the water tank or pop to the loo. The facilities here are in the field with you. We loved that the toilet/shower cabin was split in two. There's a toilet and a shower each side. It feels more like a bathroom than public conveniences - much more private. There were sponges, soap etc all provided and ample toilet paper - I'm sure we've all been to a campsite that unexpectedly had none! Finally, the location - remote, peaceful, quiet, and tranquil. We were surrounded by trees which functioned as a great windbreak too. It was end of season, but the ground wasn't all churned up by feet and tyres. We went for a walk around the area and the beauty went on for miles. It was the kind of place where you get out of the car and are hit with an instantly reviving breath of fresh air. Our final highlight was the lack of phone service. We completely switched off from the outside world while we were there and, honestly, didn't really want to leave! We loved the site and will definitely be returning!

Thanks for your kind words Eloise. I am so glad you enjoyed our site so much. Lovely to meet you and we look forward to hosting you again.
Very rustic

This is a very rustic campsite which we were not expecting. We arrived in the dark, the electric hook up was not visible (there are no marked pitches or designated hook up points at all). I would suggest the site is more suitable for tents than motorhomes as the roads around are very narrow and stone wall lined, and the gradient of the camping field is quite steep so very difficult to be level on a 'pitch'. Toilets/shower block whilst clean, were very simple, and cold water washing up is a bit too basic for my liking. A lovely rural site with a walk through woods to the river/pub, but very steep downhill, so not easily accessible unless you are quite fit.
Site's response
I am glad you enjoyed the lovely walk through the woods to the riverside pub. Our campsite is indeed rustic - we offer a back-to-nature camping experience where guests can have campfires, listen to the owls hooting, look at the stars and enjoy time in the great outdoors. Our facilities are very simple (2 flush toilets and 2 hot showers in a trailer, a cold water wash up area and chemical toilet dump point). Thank you for mentioning the cleanliness of our facilities. Our site has a gentle slope. We have a level hardstanding available which guests can book.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet of this site, and were happy with the basic facilities as advertised. The hardstanding was flat, no ramps needed. Good location, and loved being able to walk all day from the site. A couple of things to note. Access via the final narrow lane and track was only just possible for us in our 2.31m motorhome (advance notice of this would have been helpful). I am unsure what the justification is for charging an extra £5 per night for a vehicle over 5m long? Thank you for the stay.
Site's response
I am glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet and lovely walks available from our site. As we are such a small site (under 1 acre) we charge a £5/night supplement for units over 5 metres. The supplement is added by the guest when they make their online booking.

Absolutely brilliant few days here. We completely disconnected (partly by force as there is no signal) which was a truly rare experience these days. Really nice, family run campsite who were on site to help and chat. Safe for little ones, cars allowed in but it's a small field and people seemed considerate. Peaceful! No loud music or groups which is exactly what we wanted. Only reason I've marked it a 4 for location was no sweeping views, but we weren't expecting that and we weren't disappointed. Really beautiful little corner of South Wales. Coming from London, we loved being able to cook on a real fire and relax out in the countryside. You are left to your own devices here which we loved. Not a luxurious glamping kind of a place, but that's not what we were after. Nice warm showers were a treat to an otherwise authentic wild camping experience.

Thanks for your review, Fraser. So glad you enjoyed our peaceful site, campfires and lack of phone signal. Do come again.
Nice location but too expensive

We felt it was not suitable for caravans, no flat pitches. We had many problems to put our caravan a little horizontal. Also, too expensive for us. We paid £29 for one night + £8 for electricity.
Site's response
Thank you for your review. Our site is a gentle slope with some level pitches. We do accommodate caravans, and they can request to book a level pitch or hardstanding. The price you paid was our peak season August weekend rates. In the off-season we have pitches from £16/night.

Beginner to camping so just wanted something cosy, cheap and in a good location and it ticked all the boxes. Had a great weekend with the locals in the pub and the other campers. It's a reasonable quiet site with no loud groups.

A lovely little campsite situated in an ideal location for anyone who loves the great outdoors. A short car trip to Monmouth for any supplies. We went to Monmouth canoeing and then further along the River Wye for a swim and a walk. The site is small and quiet, with a nice friendly feel. The children loved the rope swing and small enclosed trees/ den on the site and had a great time feeding the sheep and watching the chickens (thanks Louise). The facilities are basic, but all you need for a short stay, clean toilets and a shower (although for the children the shower was a little hot, but lovely for me). Some open-air washing-up facilities, which were great for us (but no shelter if a rainy day). Louise was an excellent host and answered my many emails very promptly. Would definitely go again, good value for money. Thanks.

Lovely to meet you Beth. It was a really nice collection of families here for the May half-term, and so nice to see all the kids playing together. We hope to see you again.

When booking the campsite, originally booked for 9 nights but couple of days after the owners called and said the space is only available for 6 nights, which was disappointing. Great conclusive camping site with few accommodation choices; just perfect space to relax and unwind away from the civilization. The facilities were a bit dated, while in one of the showers you don't have hooks to hang your clothes so they don't get wet. I'd also recommend a small shelf to put your stuff when showering. Definitely recommend the site and hopefully will be back.
Site's response
It was good to host you and your family Ilona. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. We did let you know before you completed your booking that we only had 6 nights availability. I am sorry we could not book you in for the full 9 nights. Thanks for your suggestions for improving our facilities. Our facilities are indeed very simple. We provide a back-to-nature authentic camping experience. We hope to host you again in the future.

What a gorgeous location! We were spoilt with a weekend full of sunny weather but it was the campsite that made our stay so wonderful. The small size was ideal for us, and it was so peaceful. We love basic camping usually and this place somehow felt both basic (in a good way) but also fully catered to at the same time. The facilities were amazing - lovely clean toilets with a couple of hot showers, washing up area with eco conscious bin and recycling situation, but also still felt like we were properly in nature. We cooked our food straight on the campfire which I LOVE doing. Our hosts were very friendly and attentive but not intrusive, we felt very looked after and the place was really clean and well kept. The location couldn't have been more perfect with Monmouth just down the road when we needed to go to a supermarket, there are also various farm shops in the area, so many walks, the most lovely pub on the water was in walking distance (The Boat Inn - prepare for a steep climb back!), and we went to Symonds Yat for an afternoon too. We didn't feel the need to do too much though as the campsite was so nice we didn't want to waste it, could've just as easily spent the whole weekend relaxing there with a book, playing badminton, games and drinking wine. Would absolutely stay again and will recommend to everyone I know who loves camping. Thank you!
