Red Squirrel Campsite is perfect for families, adventure seekers and hikers. Wild open pitches allow you to have the freedom to pick and choose your pitch. There is a pub just a 15 minute walk from the site. Either a short drive, or woodland walk into the village are a few more restaurants and a local shop.

Set in a beautiful area in Glencoe, Red Squirrel is fantastically located. The children loved being next to the river and we were able to pick our own pitch, which was nice. The staff are very relaxed and this is a proper campsite. Our pitch had plenty of room, set amongst trees with the surrounding mountains, and next to the river, perfect. Only downside is the site seems quite pricy, £72 for a pitch for 2 nights. Maybe it's just me remembering the good old days when was it was £5 a night to camp? The showers were clean in the afternoon but being a busy site, they did get dirty and also, one was out of action, which meant we were waiting for showers. Once in the shower, it was either really hot or freezing, no in-between. The ice cream truck coming at night was nice and they also have a burger van but it wasn't open when we were there. The shop could also maybe sell beer 🤣 Overall, I'd definitely return. Lovely site.
Site's response
Thanks for your review, we really appreciate the time you took to write it. Sadly, as with everything, prices reflect the economy, but I am not sure Red Squirrel has ever been £5 a night? Our facilities are kept to a high standard and are checked regularly. We do understand that they can get a bit dirty but we also expect other guests to be considerate when using them and to clean up after themselves. We also don't sell beer or any alcohol as there is a pub up the road and we don't have a licence to sell. Pleased your stay was ok, and that you will return (BYOB) :) Sandi.

Great stay, wonderful location, friendly staff and good facilities. An all round great stay. We had a bad winds one of the nights, very high gusts and the staff came round getting everyone into our vehicles or to shelter until a storm had passed. Great effort guys and gals and thank for a memorable stay and we will return. Thanks very much.

A well appointed site with basic facilities and friendly staff. It's a wild site (no set pitches) so there's usually plenty of space to spread out. There's a small food van permanently based on site that opens for breakfast (08:00-10:00) and dinner (17:00-21:00) which was served tasty food and drinks. There's also a couple of restaurants within an hour walk of the site. Plenty of showers and toilets which though busy, I didn't have to queue for. They were fairly clean and the showers are served by electric showers, which means there was no risk of running out of hot water at peak times. Worth noting, though it it had no effect on our visit, there is pretty poor mobile signal (O2 and 3) and no Wi-Fi provision site-wide. You can pickup free BT Wi-Fi at reception though. All in all, a great couple of days, though in true highlands fashion the weather was 'changeable' (it rained more than it didn't!). We would love to visit again!

Thank you for the great review. We really appreciate the time you took to write about us. Pleased everything was great for you (apart from the phone signal). Hope to see you again soon, Sandi.

Beautiful spots like camping in the wild. Enough to do in the surroundings and great walks in the mountains. The staff do their best to keep the facilities clean, but they are not capable for the number of guests. Better facilities will make it 5 stars in the future.
Site's response
Thank you for your review. We pride ourselves on our cleanliness of the grounds and facilities. Our team work very hard to keep the facilities clean during all hours. We do expect our guests to be considerate to others by keeping the facilities clean too, but sadly this doesn't happen. Despite the facilities, we are pleased you enjoyed our site and our amazing location. Sandi

The red squirrel campsite was lovely. A great location with some lovely spots in the trees or near the river. We will definitely return. The campsite was very busy (fully booked) and very noisy on the Friday evening. People did not pay attention to the 11pm noise curfew. But the staff were quick to respond when contacted after midnight. There is a food truck that is open from Friday evening to Sunday morning.

From the start of our visit, we were made to feel welcome! The site is in a stunning location, the first campsite I've ever visited which allows campers to pitch where they want, if felt relaxed! We stayed a week and met many couples/ families on shorter stays. The site felt safe for the kids to play and be free to enjoy the space. The water was fun, I'd recommend wetsuits and water shoes. We will return in the not so distant future!!

Opportunity to experience semi wild camping in a fantastic environment. Busy site, popular due to stunning surroundings and a chance to safely experience open campfires and friendly company of others visiting. Be prepared to take your own portable toilet as only one toilet/shower block and parts of the site are some distance away. Will definitely return to Red Squirrel Campsite.
Site's response
Thank you for your review. We appreciate our site is large - 22 acres - there are so many beautiful pitches that you can choose your own either closer or farther away. Please note though that we do not have chemical toilet disposal, so porta toilets are not able to be disposed of due to the septic. We would recommend pitching closer :) We are pleased you found our site as beautiful as we think it is. See you again - Sandi.

Nice wooded area and close to wonderful walks and peaks to climb. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Site very clean and staff action any issues immediately. Very dog friendly and the location was magnificent. Had noisy neighbours on our penultimate night. Loud music after 11pm but staff acted to resolve this. Shopping much cheaper in Fort William as it has main supermarkets. Showers were ok for most of our stay, but had 3-4 where there was limited hot water but think this was due to peak times where everyone was washing up, using toilets and showering. Would be better with timed push button showers, which would save water too. Did not buy burger or drinks on site as thought it was quite expensive at £10 a burger and £3 a tea. We would have tried this if slightly cheaper. Loved the fire pits and wood - reasonably priced on site. Used laundry facilities and freezer, which was useful, and also has a fridge if you don't have a cooler box. We will return here again soon.
Site's response
Thank you for the review, we appreciate all feedback. Our showers are mountain water sourced (filtered), not mains, so the pressure does fluctuate, especially on peak times. With regards to the food truck, we don't set the prices as it's not our business. I will pass the comments on to them, though. Look forward to having you back. Sandi

Great campsite. So many snug places to hide a tent away for a relaxing weekend in nature. First trip here with my two year old and she loved it. A dip in the river on a sunny day is a must!

This campsite was bigger than we would normally stay in but as it was spread over 22 acres, it didn't feel like a big site. Beautiful location spread through the woods and by the river if you choose. Staff very friendly and responsive to any issues we had. One of the groundsmen (can't remember his name!) was a wealth of knowledge and inspired us to learn more about foraging! I would highly recommend this site for the location and staff friendliness. One possible improvement a few more toilets/showers. Although we were there on a busy bank holiday weekend and didn't actually need to queue but the blocks were very busy.
Site's response
Thank you for your wonderful review. We have since opened up our "festival" toilets and also 2 shower shacks near the facilities. But usually, bank hols are a busy time anyway. Our foraging groundsman is Shayne and he IS full of knowledge. :) Hope to see you again ~ Sandi

Located in the most scenic area of Scotland. Plenty of space. Lovely to have the river tributaries snaking around the campsite. The food truck was great. The toilets and showers were adequate, and the stocked baby and feminine products were a nice touch. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

Beautiful location, with great access to numerous hill walks and a nice pub nearby. Site has basic facilities, but all you need for a camping weekend. The dish washing area had no hot water, but the showers/toilets always did. They have a "quiet from 9pm, silence from 11pm" policy, but unfortunately it was not implemented. Both nights we were kept awake by groups playing loud music and singing/shouting, which was extremely frustrating. The first night this went on until 11:45pm, with our children also kept awake.
Site's response
Thank you for your review. Upon your arrival, you would have been given a card with a night duty number on it. We always tell our guests that this number is exactly for the reason you have commented about. We expect our staff to do their nightly walks, and if that hasn't happened, I'll investigate. We also expect our guests to follow our rules, It's a real shame that you didn't have a good experience because our site is very family oriented.
