Smithson Farm is in the heart of Pendle Witch Country, near the beautiful villages of Barley, Newchurch and Roughlee. It is the nearest site in the area to the Leeds Liverpool canal, and within an hours drive of Blackpool and the Trough of Bowland.

About Smithson Farm Camping and Caravan Park

Open all year round, Smithson Farm is set on 1.2 acres of level land overlooking the countryside. There are five hard standing pitches for caravans and motorhomes (4 with 6 amp electric hook up), while the rest of the site is grassed and suitable for tents or caravans. The site also has four glamping units available for hire, two superbly presented pods, a beautifully equipped shepherd's hut and luxury family-sized lodge. All are luxuriously furnished and come complete with everything you need for your break - just bring your suitcase. Responsible dog owners who exercise their dogs off site and keep them on a lead so as not to upset other guests are welcome. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the cafe or glamping accommodation.

Whilst the site is open all year, they cannot accept tents during the winter months due to the pitches being grass. However caravans and motorhomes without awnings are welcome on hard standing areas.

Facilities and amenities

Onsite facilities include well kept toilets and a coin-operated hot shower big enough to shower in comfort. There is also a washing up area, chemical disposal point and a fresh water tap. Why not try Carole's famous belly busting breakfasts with the 'Camp and Breakfast' service, served in the onsite cafe.

There are several pubs and restaurants within a couple of miles and the nearest shops are only a few minutes away by car. A Camping Gas supplier delivers, as does a local Indian takeaway.

The campsite is also the setting for Woodend Mining Museum which is open daily through the season. Guests are welcome to visit for a small fee, with an informative guided tour to see the development and decline of the coal industry in East Lancashire.

It is a unique private museum. Set up and run by the campsite owners, it began with few rusty items discovered when clearing the land for the site and now houses an impressive collection of artefacts donated mostly by ex miners who visit regularly.

Children will be able to feed and pet the many animals onsite too, including Shetland ponies, hens and ducks, two black labradors and two African grey parrots - who will entertain you with their chatter.

Situated on the outskirts of Burnley in the heart of Pendle Witch Country, the site's in an area that's steeped in history and mystery. It's also just an hour from the coastal resorts of Blackpool and Southport, and from the city of Manchester. A bus into the city leaves just a short distance from the site roughly every 20 minutes.

If you enjoy walking, the Bronte Way, Pendle Way and Laund Booth Circular are all good walks within yards of the campsite. It's also within striking distance of Pendle Hill - home of the famous Pendle Witches. You can visit the villages where they lived and go to the Witches Galore shop at New Church in Pendle, opposite the 13th Century Church of St Mary's where the family grave one of the witches executed can be found. Alternatively, tackle the walk to the top of Pendle Hill from the car park in Barley.

The site is also within easy reach of the Trough of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and one of the last habitats of the Hen Harrier. Dunsop Bridge is the geographical centre of Britain and you can follow the Trough right through to Lancaster (home to the assizes where the Witch Trials were held in the 1600s).

The beautiful villages of Newchurch in Pendle, Sabden, Roughlee and Barley are all very local.

The site is also just a few minutes from the tow path of the Leeds Liverpool Canal, from which you can walk to Burnley centre, and to the mile long tunnel near Foulridge where canal barges were "legged" through by bargees.

Finally, Clitheroe and the market town of Skipton are both well worth a visit.
