Small Tent - Woodpeckers Nest Grass Pitches (1 Car Included)Aug 2022

Nice campsite with only a few drawbacks. Check in time was up to 20:30 but the staff had left earlier because of a long shift and left a note as to where to camp and my allocated parking space. I had travelled in by car for a one night stay to supervise some walkers on Kinder Scout the next day but had to book 2 nights, which was annoying as it cost £30 and not the £10-£15 I'd usually pay for one person, one night even in a National Park. However, at least I made use of parking for the day. The owners should change this minimum weekend stay policy, as with electronic booking I don't see a need for it even during the summer. It's understandable to have a minimum booking period with a holiday cottage or a shepherd's hut as there is a changeover to do, but not with tent camping. Showers were 20p for 2 minutes which is many times the cost of the electricity and water used, even at todays high rates. More realistic would be 20p for 4 minutes allowing a standard brief shower for the minimum coin size for those meters. Wi-fi is not available at all and this is a problem for anyone who needs to communicate outside the valley as some mobile networks such as 02 and Virgin/Vodafone have zero reception. I had to go to the pub up the road to get their free Wi-Fi so that I could communicate with people I needed to meet the next day. As the complex does have internet for bookings etc via basic ADSL they could easily have a very limited guest service around reception for those who really need it. The excuse about being free of the internet etc and enjoying the countryside, read a book etc, is really just an excuse! The owners should look into providing guest Wi-Fi even if they charge a little extra for it, as the campsite is large and popular so there should be plenty of funds available for it and demand, and a real need. BT Business have this immediately available on existing routers so you just switch it on. For your exact location it's £26 a month for a Superfast fibre 36Mb installation. Pitches were good, staff were pleasant and helpful. Toilets and showers were kept very clean.

Site's response

Thanks for your feedback, Malcolm. As with many campsites around here, most have a 2 night stay minimum over weekends and summer holidays, but we do offer some backpacking pitches for those who walk on for 1 night. I appreciate the cost of the cost of our showers may seem high to you, but it has been the same for many years and most people are understanding of this. Unfortunately, with the rapidly increasing energy costs we just cannot afford to change this. Thank you for all your research into WiFi connection, the PDNPA offices do have superfast fibre installed, but this is not able to extend to the pitches. Even if we were able to do this, it is not something we are going to offer at this campsite for many reasons, a big one being that most of our customers really like the peace and quiet without technology. I don't think there are any other campsites locally that do offer this, but if you know of any please do let us know so we can suggest this to people who are looking for WiFi with their camping. We do make it very clear that there is limited signal and no WiFi on site, but as you have found it is available locally for those who want/need it. Thanks again for all your feedback, we really do hope you enjoyed your stay with us.

Nice campsite for anyone hiking in Edale

Very clean and peaceful. It would be perfect if they had WiFi.

Site's response

Really glad you enjoyed your stay with us, Richard. We leave the wifi to the local pubs, so you can really switch off and relax here and then share your adventures over some good food and drink. But thanks for the feedback, and we hope to see you again soon.

Small Tent - Foxes Corner Grass Pitches (1 Car Included)Jul 2022

Booked on a whim to take advantage of the warm weather at the start of July. The campsite is ideally located for a great walk onto Kinder and a quick dip in Crowden Brook waterfall (very invigorating). Located between two local pubs for evening refreshments and a good flat quiet pitch for a quiet nights sleep. Great one night stay to recharge the batteries. Mark F

Site's response

Both Charlie and Chrissy were amazing, the ease of booking, arrival and the lovely venue for my camper was great. The facilities were spotless and the showers were always hot. I've stayed multiple times over the years and keep coming back, would definitely recommend it.
