The campsite was great with excellent views of Ennerdale water. The owner Susan was lovely to talk to and she was very kind with our mental anxy terrier.

Great little find in a remote, secluded section of the Lake District. The location was a little bit out of the way in terms of tourist-friendly towns and amenities in walking distance, however, the campsite itself was perfect. Toilet and shower facilities were lovely and provided hand soap, shower gel which was a nice touch. With only 3 of the 6 pitches being used that night it created a cosy, friendly atmosphere. Plenty of parking and within walking distance to Ennerdale Water. Gorgeous views of Crag Fell made sunset even better. Would highly recommend.

Lovely little campsite with a great view of the lake. Toilet and shower facilities were great, very clean. Susan is really friendly and helpful, and the pub is only a short drive away. We had a great stay so if we're ever back in the area we would definitely consider staying at the wild wool barn again.

Stayed here, with an online prebooking, on the first night of the Coast to Coast. I found it quite tricky to locate (no signage from the lakeside path; no mobile signal) and was lucky enough to encounter a local who knew Routen Farm. No sign of the owner on arrival (nor indeed anyone else - the site appeared deserted), but I was able to follow instructions left on the door of the house. Site was pretty exposed to wind, notwithstanding shelter provided by stone walls. Shower and loo facilities were in good order.
Site's response
I am glad you enjoyed the facilities. I am sorry you found it tricky to find and was not there to greet you when you arrived. Like many of us these days I work in the gig economy and was not at home when you arrived. Unfortunately, I am not permitted to post signs on other peoples' property at the lake shore. However, it is very rare that campers on the Coast to Coast adventure walk who have booked to stay in this remote location do not find it. (Or I would go out of business). Visitors are provided with an address, postcode, telephone number, grid reference, what 3 words locator, a map pinpoint on the web site and written step by step instructions on how to arrive on foot and by car from all directions. The farm is clearly shown on the OS and Harvey's maps. It is quite common across the UK that satnavs are not accurate, so using a combination of the above directions normally helps when travelling to rural locations. I hope you made it safely to the end of your great Coast to Coast Adventure.

Small campsite in a remote location. Ideal for walks around the Lake District. Was nice to stay in a ‘less touristy’ area of the Lake District.

We spent two peaceful nights at the Wild Wool Barn. The scenery is wonderful. The amenities and facilities are reduced to the minimum. We couldn't store some food in the fridge. If you only want to sleep over on the site and discover the Ennerdale water area, it is a great site.

We stayed at Wild Wool Barn for a night of peace and quiet, camping away from the kids. And what a lovely night it was, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Susan the lady who owns it was lovely and came to us straight away to say hello and show us where the facilities were. The location is just beautiful with Mountain Views in a lovely little village. We visited the local pub Fox and Hounds, which was spot on. Food was nice with a nice beer garden too. We definitely enjoyed our night at Wild Wool Barn and will definitely be visiting again

Enjoyed our stay at the campsite with really good facilities for the price. It was a bummer the weather didn't stay up as we expected. Overall we had a great experience.
