The ultimate guide to water parks in the UK
Britain is a lovely little island surrounded by water, so it’s no wonder so many of us are drawn to fun days by the seaside. But did you know that the UK is also host to a number of fantastic water parks? Right here, on your very doorstep, is a variety of watery attractions just waiting for you to explore! Read on for your ultimate guide to water parks in the UK.
Most popular
By far the most popular and well-known water park in the UK is Alton Towers Water Park, which is also known as Splash Landings. Located next to the theme park in Staffordshire, it’s one of the most exciting water parks available for you to explore… but also one of the more expensive! Our top tip would be to book online in advance – you can save up to 10% that way. It’s also worth noting that kids under 4 years old go free.
In Tyne and Wear is Wet ‘n’ Wild, the UK’s largest water park. A big selling point is that it’s open every day in peak season and offers cheap day passes, which makes it particularly handy for those ‘What shall we do today?’ mornings! If you fancy saving even more money, visit during the low season as this park has reduced off peak rates while remaining open 5 days a week.
Best for rainy days
Those holidaying in Staffordshire are spoilt for choice of water attractions. In addition to Alton Tower’s Splash Landing, this county is also home to the UK’s number one indoor water park, Waterworld. With cheap weekend passes and special ’2 for 1’ offers on weekend entry (after 12 pm), it’s reasonably priced for such a popular attraction. And if it happens to be your birthday or even just a special occasion, they are great for children’s parties!
Splashdown Water Park in Poole has possibly the best schedule out of all the parks on this list – it stays open all winter and has plenty of indoor rides to keep you entertained. Thrill seekers might like the sound of the slides and rides, including the well-named Screamer! You can stay close by in Wimbourne. For more water-based fun, take to the sea in boat tours and trips to Brownsea Island offered in the harbour town of Poole.
For families and water babies!
The whole family will find something for them at Splashdown, near Paignton in Devon. Teenagers will love the ‘Splash Mania’ dance party, an event specifically for under 18s that takes places most Friday evenings. The adrenalin junkies in the family can take the plummet down Devil’s Drop… if they dare! For the little ones and those seeking quieter fun, the water park has access to beautiful and quiet Goodrington beach.
Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool has over 18 slides and attractions – most of which have great themes like Aztec Falls or Fort Riptide. The bigger flumes in the park require adults to accompany children, so be prepared to dive straight in with your kids! This park is good value for money, with tickets around £10.
Another water park able to keep the family entertained is Aquasplash in Hemel Hempsted. The smallest on our list, it offers 6 exhilarating rides as well as ice skating facilities. It’s incredibly reasonable, with a ticket to skate and swim costing from as little as £7.50.
A trip to the water parks is an excellent and exciting day out. With the chance to have fun and create memories that last a lifetime, a visit to one of these parks is the perfect addition to any UK holiday!
