Blackgang Chine

Your complete guide to Blackgang Chine prices

If you and your family love the rush and excitement of a day out at the theme park, Blackgang Chine Park in the Isle of Wight offers a range of fun attractions for the young and young at heart. This eccentric tourist attraction was established in 1843, making it the oldest theme park in the UK. Awarded a certificate of excellence in 2013, the park’s many rides and adventure areas overlook the island’s stunning Southwest Heritage Coastline, making it a great photo opportunity as well. Here is a quick guide to Blackgang Chine prices, rides and other useful information for planning your next camping holiday.

History

The Blackgang Chine Park is located on the original chine (a coastal ravine) which was destroyed by constant landslides in the area. The site, which is situated 500 feet above the sea and Chale Bay, was a wild and isolated place. However, over the years, the area’s natural character has become an increasingly popular holiday spot for tourists. As a result, the park and nearby hotel (now a restaurant and offices) were built to cater for the increasing number of holidaymakers.

Blackgang Chine prices and times

Blackgang Chine’s annual season runs from mid-March through to the beginning of November, however other events such as Bestival can disrupt their normal calendar during September. Opening times are usually from 10am to 5pm, although the park closes at 6pm between July 27 and September 6 and shuts at 4.30pm between September 28 and November 3. For the most up to date information, visit the Blackgang Chine website.

Peak and off-peak prices are available throughout the year and are colour coded on the park’s online calendars. A seven day freedom standard ticket for ages 4 to 59 is available for a peak price of £14.95 and an off peak price of £12.50. Families of four can also save money by purchasing a Freedom Saver ticket for £55 (peak) or £45 (off-peak). Elderly or disabled tickets can be bought for a lower price of £12.95 (peak) or £10.50 (off-peak) and all under children under four can go free. Seasonal events can alter the entry tariff so be sure to check ticket prices before purchase.

Alternatively, families can enjoy two of the Isle of Wight’s top theme parks (Blackgang Chine Park and the Robin Hill Adventure Park) for less money by purchasing joint park tickets with a starting price of £26.95 for a standard (ages 4 to 59) peak ticket.

Rides and facilities

The park has four rides for thrill seekers of all ages. While older kids will enjoy the 35mph twists and turns of the Cliff Hanger perched on the edge of a vertical cliff, younger children will like the spinning pirate barrel ride within their own Jolly Roger vessel. There is also the fast-flowing Water Force to experience as well as a real life game of Snakes and Ladders with slides and stairs.

When you are not spinning and twisting, there are 6 Lands of Imagination to explore that each have plenty to offer. Here visitors can wander around a real life Western town complete with saloons, a county jail and bank robbers before heading to a pirate cove with plenty of watery fun and adventure play areas. Dinosaur Land, Fairy Land and Fantasy Land are also filled with mythical creatures alongside plenty of small grottos, hidden woodland houses and adventure walks. Younger kids will enjoy wandering around a real life wonderland and a giant hedge maze in Nursery Land while adults can enjoy a break in its picturesque water gardens. Later on in the day, everyone will enjoy tucking into an ice-cream or a meal at one of the park’s four food outlets.

Other attractions and camping sites

After you have emerged from a land of fantasy, why not soak up some more of the Isle of Wight’s unspoilt landscape in Ventnor? Since the Victorian era, this town has been built up into a quaint coastal resort, filled with little knick knack shops, ports and plenty of pubs and cafes to quench your thirst after a long walk along its beaches and bays. After an action packed day, campers can retreat to one of many campsites in the area along the coast and inland.

Blackgang Chine Theme Park is guaranteed to entertain the entire family on your next camping trip. We hope that this guide has sparked new ideas and inspired you to stop by the UK’s oldest theme park in the Isle of Wight.
