While wild camping in its purist form takes place outside of organised campsites, it is possible to try wild camping within established parks too. Essentially, there are wilder campsites which are more basic in terms of the available facilities.

Indeed, some campsites have wild camping areas as well as more serviced pitches.

It's an option which might be particularly attractive to first-time wild campers in order to provide a sense of what wild camping is like while still having access to some facilities.

The facilities available can vary greatly depending on which campsite is chosen, from a tap with running water to basic toilet and shower facilities. Certain wilder campsites will accept motorhomes as well as backpackers, though others will be restricted to people without vehicles.
