A note from the site themselves...

We are Pete and Sara Bull, owners of Poplars Farm. We enjoy welcoming visitors and seeing them relax and recharge their batteries. It is lovely to see many people return and bring friends, whether you are new to camping and glamping or a seasoned pro, we are happy to help you and chat or leave you in peace.

The farm has been in the family for over 70 years and had dairy cattle and pigs at one time, Pete also ran a successful firewood business, but we are semi-retired now with just a few chickens and ducks for lovely fresh eggs. We run the campsite with our spaniel, Jess. Jess would like to join any small gathering, BBQ or picnic, but, don't worry, we keep an eye on her.

We pride ourselves on running our campsite well and its beauty is in the magnificent views, as well as the low number of visitors even when full, allowing for a sense of being at one with nature. We do not seek to increase capacity, but we are always looking for ways to improve the site whilst maintaining a wholesome camping experience!

Motorhome - Hardstanding Touring Pitches (Optional Electric)Dec 2024

We enjoyed our stay. We had some good drives and there are some good walks around the site. There is lots of information at the site on all local walks, amenities and attractions. We paid £24 a night, plus you have to pay for the electricity, we paid roughly £6 a night in electric. The metre is at the side of your pitch so can keep an eye on what you are using. It was really cold and foggy, so I guess our usage was up. If there was one thing that we would suggest to have helped our stay, we took our elderly mother and a couple of grab rails would have helped her, 1 in the toilet, and 1 in the shower with a step into the shower with a grab rail, but a good site and a nice stay despite poor weather, which no one can help. Check out the riverside gardens at close by Belper, just a pleasant little place to visit.

Site's response

Thank you very much for your visit, Don. The weather certainly was pretty lousy for your stay! With the facilities being a purpose built portacabin, I’m not sure we would be able to install grab rails but I can understand your point. Best wishes

Camping Pod - Hazel Camping Pod (Dog Friendly)Dec 2024

I booked to stay for two nights but only ended up staying one night. Didn't sleep a wink as the farm just behind has dogs constantly barking all day and night. The television only has about 6 channels that have signal and the Wi-Fi signal is so poor, it wouldn't even load Facebook. If you want it for walking and you don't want to sleep or are a heavy sleeper, then I'm sure it would be great but I didn't sleep a wink and couldn't do my work I had planned due to poor Wi-Fi.

Site's response

We would always encourage any guests to tell us immediately if there is any concern as we always try to address any issues straight away. The problem with the TV and Wi-Fi could have been easily remedied. We think Storm Darragh the few days before your visit must have had some impact but we retuned the TV (143 channels) and restored the Wi-Fi, which is usually good as we have fibre optic. This is something we should have checked before your visit and so we apologise for this and have already sent a partial refund to you to reflect this. We will always check this in future when a new guest is arriving. We are in a farming area and farm dogs can bark at times and this is not usually a problem. Unfortunately, as you explained, your dog reacted to the barking with more barking, setting each other off. This is obviously not the experience we want for our guests and we take feedback seriously. Best wishes.

Camping Pod - Ash Camping Pod (Dog Friendly)Nov 2024

Poplars Farm is great site, I stayed in a pod which was super cosy with a toaster, kettle, microwave and utilities. There is also a tv if you feel you need it, personally with the views it's nice to sit and read. The pod also has its own dedicated toilet and shower a few meters away. The hosts were really friendly and gave some ideas of where you can go for walks and food. There are several pubs within walking distance. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Site's response

Thank you very much, Wayne. Great to meet you and your friendly dog, we are pleased you enjoyed your stay.
