About Abbey Farm

Abbey Farm is a 270 acre farm, located a short distance from the quiet market town of Thame on the border of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Kites Nest Shepherd's Hut is discreetly nestled into the sloping rural landscape. Totally self contained, heated and insulated it provides a wonderful glamping experience for two. Cooking is simple, with a fully functional and well equipped kitchen. Outside is a private wood fired hot tub. Weather permitting, you have the choice of eating in or outside. A lawned area has a table and chairs and is perfect for outside eating and relaxing. The chiminea and supply of logs takes the edge off any fresh nights, offering an opportunity to sit under the stars and gaze! The Roost shepherd's hut is identical to Kites Nest, the only difference being that the hob is gas instead of electric and the bed is fixed. The huts are extremely private and you can't see them at all from each other. Just minutes from junctions 7 and 8 of the M40, it is extremely well suited to anyone wishing to get away for that idyllic, tranquil break - be it for a short stay or longer. Private parking near to the accommodation.

Abbey Farm is open all year round.

A note from the site themselves...

We made the move to the farm back in 2009. During our time here, we have slowly reverted half the farm back to grass and have entered a large proportion of our land into environmental schemes. We really wanted to promote ground-nesting birds such as Curlew and Skylark by having a lot of low-input grassland.

As an estimate, we have planted around 12,000 trees and over 3km of hedging. We have fenced off our livestock from the watercourses to protect the river banks and we don't use sprays or fertiliser to these environmentally diverse areas. During your stay here, you might spot wildlife such as barn owls, kingfishers, otters, deer and more!

We look forward to welcoming all of our guests and hope to see you soon, Georgina

Shepherd's Hut - Kites Nest Shepherd's HutAug 2024

What a fabulous little place for some R&R! The hut, patio and hot tub are all secluded, giving the feeling of being in your own little place miles from anywhere. The facilities are perfect and operating instructions clear and concise. The farm and local paths give the opportunity for walks of any length. The owner messaged on the first day to check that everything was ok. All in all, a great little place to recharge your batteries!

A fabulous retreat. All instructions were clear and detailed, so using the facilities was straight forward. We really felt private and secluded, which is what we were after from this break. The Shepherds Hut itself was comfortable with everything you need included. Would definitely return.

Shepherd's Hut - Kites Nest Shepherd's HutJan 2024

Very impressed with the hut. It had everything you needed, it was clean and bed was very comfortable. Issue with the radiator in the bathroom but Georgina couldn't have been more helpful and offered to heat up the hot tub as a token gesture. Would definitely recommend.

Abbey Farm offers a very peaceful, restful experience, where you can enjoy the hut and idyllic surroundings.

A footpath a few hundred yards away, meanders out towards the Oxfordshire Golf Club and beyond, linking the local village of Moreton with Thame. Within Thame are many fine pubs, with a very good reputation for food and supporting local breweries.

Walks away from the hut in the opposite direction, through the farm, run along the River Thame, with an opportunity for for guests to fish if they so choose. The village of Shabbington is within a mile, where the Old Fisherman Pub can be found.

A cycle route at the farm entrance, links the farm with Thame and onto the Phoenix Trail, a disused railway, linking the town to Princes Risborough. The route passes through villages and towns with the opportunity to duck off and sightsee at your leisure.

A bus stop is only a few hundred yards from the farm entrance, regularly going to Thame, Aylesbury, Oxford or Haddenham, which has railway links to Midlands and London.

By car, local attractions include the nearby Chiltern Hills, Chiltern Open Air Museum, The Cotswolds, Blenheim Palace, Waddesdon Manor, Le Manoirs Aux Quat Season and Oxford, to name but a few. Most of these are within a 30-40 minute drive or less.
