VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

Wild (ish) camping? Basically a campsite with no toilet or showers. That's okay, you knew this. Me and Ruudi, my Staffy, loved the easygoing-ness of the site. Drove up, pitched up in a little corner. Had to check in across the road though at Denny Wood. Staff friendly and helpful. Terry, Fiona, Peter very approachable and easy going. Some site attendants I've encountered think they are doing you a favour allowing you on site! Not at Matley Wood, really pleasant, mild-mannered in keeping with the beauty and tranquillity of the New Forest. Spent 3 chilled nights here. Miss it already.

I'm reluctant to say how much I loved staying here in case it becomes too popular and I never get a booking again! There are no bathroom facilities or electric hook up on the site, but as a fully contained camper, we have no need for either, but there are places for emptying your rubbish, fresh water and somewhere to empty your bathroom waste. If you want somewhere to relax that's quiet and peaceful and you want to enjoy the wildlife and take in the scenery, I would recommend the site. You can walk to the closest town Lyndhurst in about 40 mins or there are numerous walks in the area. We will definitely be visiting again!

Had the best two days with my son on our first camping trip, walked the beautiful landscape took in the views and sunsets cooked outdoors in amongst the trees, felt good to be back with nature. The campsite was so perfect as close to off grid as you can get. And what made it even more perfect my son forgot his mobile phone so we just chatted for two days.

Great quiet site, very friendly staff

Trailer Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesJul 2024

Had a great stay. Friendly staff at the site. You have to check into Denny Wood first. Ready to help us or just have a friendly chat. Also, the gentleman gave us some good tips as to where we could walk to see more animals. Can't wait to stay again, will be booking in September.

Beautiful campsite with direct access to cycling and hiking routes. There are no facilities, but that is the point of this campsite. You can park up anywhere you like, under the trees or a piece of grass, all in the middle of nature Wild camping on a campground and it is not expensive. I would recommend it as long as you have your own facilities with you.

Motorhome - Non Electric Grass PitchesJun 2024

Loved our stay at Matley Wood, right in the New Forest. Great walks on your doorstep, great walking route in to Lyndhurst with stunning scenery, will definitely be staying there again. You do have to be self contained, but there is water and facilities to empty chemical toilets.

Enjoyed my stay

Motorhome - Non Electric Grass PitchesJun 2024

My wife and I was looking for a nice site to stay (electric hook-up not important due to being in motorhome). The site was clean, well looked after and located on the outskirts of the forest. We enjoyed a 1.5 mile walk into Lyndhurst, visiting a wonderful pub with great food (The White Rabbit). The walk was the ideal distance and was along a nice scenic path with horses, donkeys, squirrels, and lots of small birds that were nesting on the floor in the heather. The cost for the pitch was much cheaper than most and much lower than it probably should be. The only negative I have for our stay is when we arrived, the gate was locked and luckily another guest saw us waiting there and advised we had to drive up to a nearby site to the office to book in and obtain the code to enter the gate. This information was not on our booking email. Once we visited the office, they asked about our booking and apologised as it appears it was a glitch and we were not the only ones that had this issue. I'm confident that it won't be an issue next time.

Nice stop in the new forest

Great off grid motorhome site. No electric but has water, toilet waste and rubbish bins. Great walks and cycling ways through the forest. We went on a Bank Holiday so full, however I am told it's normally much quieter. Recommend if you're looking for a quiet site in nature.
