Deep in the Dartmoor National Park, you'll find a back to basics base at Moretonhampstead Sports and Community Centre which is perfect for active types. It's surrounded by a host of outdoor adventures, but still close to a village with great pubs and tearooms for a pick-me-up after time in the open air. The centre itself even has tennis courts along with a gym, exercise classes and much more.
About the site
This volunteer run sports centre is set on 4 acres of enticing grounds, with a quiet and friendly atmosphere. It's tucked into a valley, but still in walking distance of the local village. Camping is on grass, with plenty of space but without electric hook-ups. It's tents only, with BBQs on racks permitted. The field is kept clear from noisy cars thanks to a spacious car park. Sorry dogs cannot stay.

As the centre is not open 24 hours, campers must arrive within the opening hours and pay in advance for their stay.

Dartmoor's wild beauty is really something to see, so why not hike between the tors or try a picnic - you may even spot a few Dartmoor ponies!
For days out, Bovey Castle Spa and Golf Course is perfect and who could resist the cute animals at the Minature Pony Centre in Newton Abbot.
The kids will go wild for Crealy World of Adventures but you can also dazzle them with the mysteries of ancient Kents Cavern.
The beach at Blackpool Sands in the Dartmouth area hosts a summer outdoor cinema and is a great choice for watersports.
