Higher Cheristow Farm Camping is a no frills, small adult-only campsite on an organic working beef farm, with wonderful views of the countryside. Restricted to 18 people for a quiet time, it is a perfect base for exploring the South West Coast Path. The farm is a haven for wildlife and wildflowers. If you want to get away from everything, this is the place to come to. The farm is off the beaten track approached by traditional Devon lanes.

We stayed here for a week staying in our new touring caravan. Such a lovely site which looks over the North Devon countryside. This is a working farm with cows around you and a pack of very tame ducks. Shelly and Eric, the hosts were super friendly and welcoming. Electric, water, clean toilets, showers if you need them. Location is great to explore, lovely walks. Adults only and very quiet.

My boyfriend and I shared such a special time at this adult-only campsite. It was remote, peaceful and we really felt connected to nature through the little touches at the kitchen cabin, the warm welcome from Shelly and Eric and the various animals on the farm. Hartland has plenty to do for a long weekend, the quaint village centre is a short cycle away and there's the lighthouse and Speke Mills waterfall close by too. We also were able to buy local honey at the campsite! Overall would highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, quiet get away.

Lovely quiet place to be. Fantastic views across the countryside, and friendly helpful owners. Lovely walk to the coast path or to Hartland, through a wood for a beer!

Thank you. The SW Coastal Path is about 25 minutes walk along country lanes, and Hartland with its friendly pubs, coffee shop and post office is about 35 minutes walk through woods and fields. Ideal if you want peace and quiet, but close proximity to facilities.
Lovely, quiet site with nice, clean facilities

Wonderful picturesque views. Quiet and not a soul in sight. Great owners, very chatty, friendly and accommodating. Superb washing facilities and showers. Rural surroundings, however great walking opportunities.

Small, quiet site within typical Devon countryside. Facilities basic but kept immaculately clean, with nice additions of toaster and fridge for use. Showers spacious and water hot. Our pitch was level with thick grass and space around us. Everyone made welcome and owner visible, checking all was ok morning and evening. Walked from the site on footpaths to Hartland and Hartland Abbey. Cycled along the quiet lanes.

Site was so tiny and wonderful. A little gem, hosts so friendly and helpful. Great big pitch, facilities wonderful and clean. The only shower and loo block I have used that has a duck excluder! Quiet lanes for a stroll with the dog in to Hartland or out to the coast path. Hope to be back.

Higher Cheristow Campsite is an absolute gem. Welcoming owners and farmers Shelly and Eric really go the extra mile to help make your stay the best it can be. We stayed for a week when I'd just heard I'd need to sit some online recruitment tests and had thought I'd need to return home to sit them. But there was no need! Shelly and Eric not only let me use their furnished barn - complete with tea-making kit - but they also changed their work schedule so I wouldn't be disturbed by them moving their cattle during the test itself! I really couldn't have asked for a more supportive and helpful response than they gave me. A thousand thanks!! The campsite is idyllic, with views over the village of Hartland and the best wifi you could imagine, the pitches are generous and quiet. You can hire a fire pit, but we chose not to as the wind was quite strong during our stay. The facilities are welcoming and extremely practical. 2 individual washrooms and 2 shower rooms give plenty of space for you to wash, dry and spruce yourself up. In the lobby outside you'll find a kettle, toaster, fridges, cups and teabags with helpful mirrors on the walls and a table which seats 2 - so if you're a cyclist, you can really travel light. A radio plays classic FM in the background, creating a welcoming atmosphere too. The farm and campsite are run on eco-friendly, sustainable, organic standards and the meat which they produce is, quite literally, the best quality and flavour I've ever tasted. I'm booking a meat box to be delivered when I've finished this review. Local honey is also on sale outside the campsite. There are animals on the farm - cattle, rare breed Soay sheep, cats and ducks. There's also a little wooden barrier to step over into the washrooms so that the ducks don't join you, Shelly and Eric have thought of it all. If you're looking for a peaceful, welcoming campsite which offers you privacy and amazing views with attentive, kind and generous hosts, you need to visit Higher Cheristow. It's simply our favourite UK campsite.

Wow, what a lovely comprehensive review. The farm is a place for peace and harmony. Our animals enjoy munching the lovely herbal leys, living a stress free natural life. We hope that campers feel the wonderful vibes during their stay. The amenities block is ideal for campers who want to use a toaster, microwave, fridge or hairdryer. Someone was in the amenities block yesterday morning enjoying their breakfast using the table and couple of chairs to sit at. There are also books to borrow. I do hope your job interview is successful, and hope to see you again soon!
Will definitely be returning

A lovely couple. Great small touches to make you feel welcome. We were frequently visited by the geese/ducks from the farm who were a great source of entertainment. We even witnessed the birth of a baby calf. The farm itself is set in beautiful surroundings. Close to the pretty coastal village of Clovelly. Half an hour from Bideford and Bude. Hartland and Hartland Abbey are a short walk away. Ideal for South West Coast Path walks. Will definitely be returning.
