About Wallsend Guest House and Glamping Pods

This tranquil site is within the small village of Bowness-on-Solway, about twelve miles west of Carlisle. Fantastic for walking and cycling, the area is packed with nature and acts as the jumping off point for both the Hadrian's Wall National Trail and the NCN Route 72. Owners Barry and Michelle are locals from Carlisle and are keen cyclists. They're on hand to make your stay a relaxing one, including recommending an excellent local pub or the right cycle route. A set of furnished glamping pods make the perfect base for exploring the area. Each sleeps up to four and is toasty warm with heating and electricity supplied. Inside there are excellent beds and sofa beds, a TV and mod cons such as a fridge, toaster, kettle, sink and set of hot plates. You even have a comfy table and chairs too. If you're wanting to fully indulge, opt for one of the pods with either a two, or four person log burner hot tub. Enjoy a glass of wine whilst you unwind beneath the stars, the perfect way to spend your evening! Dogs are welcome to stay with you, but must be on a lead at all times and be cleaned up after. Whole site booking for your exclusive use is also available.

The site is open from 1st February to 1st December, although are available for special requests outside of these dates.

A note from the site themselves...

We purchased the pods from a couple who were retiring in October 2020. Our process for building the site was all done through covid so we only eventually May 2021. We were most attracted to the village life, history of the site and the part it has played over the centuries as we are located in a UNESCO world heritage site, Hadrian's Wall, and also we are in an AONB.

The site is surrounded by agricultural fields and we love having visits from owls, deer, geese and wonderful seasonal migrating birds. By location, the site is very peaceful, something we endeavour to keep, our location is remote and is great for those who need to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and embrace nature.

Both of us had very busy jobs in a totally different sector to hospitality, however, we loved using our holiday time to stay in pods or small family-run establishments. One of our favourite things is meeting guests and chatting to them about our area and helping them to embrace the local area and its attractions.

Glamping Pod - Ensuite Glamping Pod (Optional Four Person Hot Tub, Dog Friendly)Oct 2024

Family of 2 adults and 1 12 year old boy. It was a very last minute decision to go away so we expected it not to tick all the boxes. We wanted a peaceful few nights away from civilisation with plenty of countryside walks and a hot tub and thankfully stumbled across this hidden gem. We arrived a couple of hours later than planned but we arrived with Barry at the door to welcome us. When we went round to the pods, we were the only people there which is exactly what we wanted. The pod was clean and had everything we could need and more! The hot tub had also been pre-heated for our arrival! There is a pub a 10 minute walk away and the food was absolutely lovely. I don’t have a single negative word to describe our mini break away! Thank you so much!

Glamping Pod - Ensuite Glamping Pod (Optional Four Person Hot Tub, Dog Friendly)Oct 2024

We stayed with two boys, they absolutely loved the hot tub especially in the rain at night 😂 Supplied with plenty of wood to keep the hot tub nice and hot. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves. The pod was warm enough, there was plenty of room and comfy beds. Beautiful scenery and location. The pub is with walking distance, but we never had chance to go. Wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely return. Many thanks, Lynda, Sonya & the boys

Glamping Pod - Adult Only Ensuite Glamping Pods (Optional Hot Tub, Dog Free)Oct 2024

Stayed here for a romantic weekend break and a lovely time! Barry was very friendly and helpful. Making us feel welcome and comfortable. The pod was just what we needed, very clean and nicely decorated/ furnished. Being the end of October we were worried we'd maybe be cold, however it was quite the opposite! Nice, warm and cozy. Thanks for a great time!
