Been visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park annually for years and absolutely love it. We decided to camp and will definitely be making it a yearly thing now. The site is a great open space, well laid out, and the bits that are open (after closing) are great, the grandkids loved the park. Staff were absolutely brilliant and helpful. Downside was that it was a bit expensive for no EHU. Portacabin for shower and toilet (even though, it was quite clean and tidy). No Elsan point. So for £35 per night, you would expect better facilities.

Large flat field, huge skies, large pitches, good toilet and wash facilities. Access to a great play park. Reduced price entry to safari park for next day :) We will likely return for all these reasons :) Note, I would say that the 'evening entry to park' isn't something to build your hopes up on as it's quite limited access.
Wide open and noisy

A former overflow car park at the old entrance to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. It is a big wide open field which means there is no shelter from the weather and the wind howls across it. Pitches are ample sized but the allocation seems really random. The facilities on site are ok with the reception having emergency supplies. The showers were in portacabins, as are the toilets. Showers could do with cleaning more regularly. On site activities and access to the play area and restaurant in the park after 6pm is great for keeping kids entertained and fed. The price of food and drink though is extortionate. £48 for a 2 pizza meal deal! Worst thing about the site though is the nearby rail line that has freight trains running along it all night long.
It could have been so good!

It could have been so good! Very disappointing. This exciting campsite that's situated so close to animals could really have been something, but what a let down by the lack of site management. We were originally given a pitch behind the kids football net, next to the kids activity tent,. Luckily, the staff were able to move us when we requested. Who would want to camp on that pitch? There was a nice kids' activity tent, which had access to recreational activities during the day and entertainment/bar until 9pm. The access to the playpark felt super special. We even got a glimpse of the giraffe, camels and a leopard. At night time, it was great to hear the baboons making noises, this was really cool. However, the reason I heard the baboons was because it was 1:30am in the morning and I was still awake due to the volume of the music playing by some other campers. Happy, hardcore music blasting away and loud talking, shouting and singing into the early hours was awful. My poor young children were kept awake very lat. This meant the next day was super difficult, overtired children walking around the Wildlife park, really spoilt our day. The second night was sadly the same, despite there being wardens who promised to keep the music down at the site, although stated they would allow them to keep it on low, even though the site is meant to be a quiet site between 9:30pm- 7am. We expressed our frustrations on numerous occasions on both nights, however, it was not managed and the volume was ridiculous. Sometimes it was turned down (possibly after being asked to) then it was turned back up. The site should not state the quiet site rule if they are not going to enforce it. We would not have booked this site had we of known. The facilities were poor. The toilets are cabins, they often had no paper towels or soap. Some of the pipes were broken, which put facilities out of action for a bit. The pot wash area had no hot water and the tap handle was broken. We were thankful the office staff allowed us to use their fridge, as the site doesn't have a campers fridge/freezer, which is tricky when there is no access to electric anywhere on site. The staff were really friendly and did their best for people, however, not proactive in managing volume at night. Overall, whilst we loved the Wildlife park access on an evening and the activity tent, the campsite management really let the whole trip down and we would never go back unless we knew for certain it was managed better. This is not a family friendly site when adults are able to cause anti social behaviour until the early hours, which is both annoying and frightening. Very disappointing!

The site was perfect for visiting the park. The facilities were good, toilets, showers etc. My only suggestion would be to place a mob or similar in the showers, the floor was soaking. The entertainment at night was a bonus. Great stay, would definitely go back.

Just got back from our camping holiday. It was such a great experience for our first camping holiday. Friendly staff and good facilities. Great entertainment for children. We had exclusive evening use of play park. Also there was disco and quiz on camping site. Perfect stay for younger children as there were plenty of running around space, but secure enough not to loose sight of them. Last night there was bingo and member of staff was very good with a bunch of 3-5 year olds trying to help her. Would happily recommend it to our friends.
Nice little site

Good site, pitches are a good size. Has a tipi tent that sells drinks and has entertainment for kids. Quite a lot of noise from nearby roads, we could hear cars and sirens. Has decent facilities which are maintained and a security guard that patrols the site. Nearest shop is a 20 min walk if you need supplies.
Amazing stay, would 100% recommend

We stayed at Camp Lion for one night and it was brilliant. You can go into the zoo after 6pm and use the play area and café - we ate our tea whilst sat with giraffes! Back at the campsite, there was a quiz and mini disco in the tepee, which our little boy loved. The showers and toilets were clean, pitches a great size and the staff all really friendly. Couldn't fault anything about the stay!
