About Little Oak Camping

You'll find this relaxed campsite tucked away near the market town of Retford in North Nottinghamshire, deep in the heart of Robin Hood country. Quiet and secluded, the site is surrounded by fields and a beautiful wild garden complete with a large pond with goldfish. It's a lovely spot, with plenty of outdoor space for kids to play hide and seek or kick around a football, but has some more private areas for a romantic getaway. It is quite a small site with only 17 pitches in total spread over two fields so you get lots of space. When you arrive you can camp anywhere on the site so you can choose your spot depending on your preferences. Maybe you want some shade under the trees or a quicker trip to the toilet block, it's up to you. There are lots of fire sites where you can light a fire with firewood for sale by the barrow load at a very reasonable rate - marshmallows to toast are included! You are also welcome to bring your own BBQs but hire is also available so you don't have to get your car sooty. For glamping, the Romany-style caravan offers everything you love about camping, with some glamour and home comforts thrown in. It has a delightful kitchen/living area which has a single sofa bed suitable for a little one and a double bed at the end. Linen, towels, fridge, heater, and essential kitchen and household items are provided. You will even be provided with a list of everything in the caravan to help you pack. This is a great experience for kids who love the quirky nature of it but is also a great venue for a couple's romantic getaway. Dogs and very welcome too, so be sure to make room for your four legged friends!

Camping is available from February to November, with the Annexe pitches open for the summer months. Glamping is available all year round.

A note from the site themselves...

We both adored camping when we were younger and some of our fondest memories are of camping holidays. So about ten years ago we decided to leave London and set up a campsite. We had lots of experience so we knew what we wanted to provide!

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesOct 2024

Fantastic site, hidden away in the back garden. Large field surrounded with trees making it very quiet and peaceful. I was able to park anywhere I wanted, which gave me the freedom of being alone or near others. Nobody bothered me but I noticed the owner walked around every morning to make sure everyone was okay. The shower/toilet block could do with freshening up but the shower was lovely and warm. Being a female camping alone I felt very secure and safe. The site is very dark as there is no lights at all anywhere, maybe some sensor lights leading to the toilet block would've been nice. The fire pits that are dotted around the site are a nice touch for anyone wanting to use them too. Overall, very pleased with the site and I hope to be back again soon.

I recently visited here with my husband and our 3 pugs. It's such a nice, quiet campsite, in a beautiful location. We had a lovely, peaceful time and will definitely come back!

Mostly good!

Medium Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

Had a great time, but maybe some regulation as to when to quieten down in the evening would be a good idea. A large group turned up late on the Friday evening, 3 mums and a bunch of kids and basically didn't care about other parents trying to get their kids to sleep. Kids screaming, adults all being loud over dinner, car doors slamming, inflating air beds at 10pm, that kind of thing. Seems louder than normal when trying to sleep in a tent. The noise then went on much later, so our kids were all shattered the day after, which is not fun. If the campsite had some signs up or some guidelines upon arrival, then maybe would have helped.

Site's response

Daniel I am so sorry that you were disturbed by noise. We ask everyone to quieten down by 11 on the information we send and its in our site rules. When large groups book, we make sure they know this is a family site and ask them not to book if they are going to be rowdy. In this instance they all made separate booking so we weren't able to head them off at the pass, so to speak. My husband would have been round at least once during the evening and again at 11 to ask them to quieten down. It's a difficult line to navigate, people accuse us of being the fun police just as as well as telling us it was too noisy. We have neighbours who don't want to be disturbed as well so we generally err on the side of quiet, but we don't always get it right and I am sorry if we didn't on this occasion.
