About the site


Southdown Way Caravan and Camping Park is beautifully positioned at the foot of the South Downs in West Sussex, just north of Brighton, close to Ditchling. Fully serviced pitches provide individual electric, water and grey water drainage points. Fire pits and BBQs are permitted as long as they are raised from the ground. Fire pits are available for hire at reception. All profits from the caravan and camping park are allocated to the The Sussex Lantern charity organisation for the development of the planned centre for the life enhancement of blind, partially sighted and disabled people of all ages, to provide facilities for participation in sport, recreation, play, education and training, thereby promoting a healthy and active life. A Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme camping area is available too.

Separate male and female toilets and showers of the highest standards are provided, each comprising six toilets and six showers (one of each for wheelchair users), mirrors, sinks, hair dryers for the ladies and electric shaver points for the men.

In addition to the wheelchair facility in each of the shower and toilet areas, there is a dedicated room where a large shower area and disabled toilet are provided. A baby changing facility is also available in this room.

The site also have a laundry room, communal fridge/freezer and dish washing area.

A small shop onsite is located in the reception area, and is open from 9am to 6pm. There are excellent pub/restaurants in the area - two of which, the Greyhound and the Hassocks Hotel, are especially recommended and are located nearby.

Children must not play in the vicinity of the water and chemical disposal points or the toilet block.

No congregating around the toilet blocks.

No fires except BBQ, fire pits and fire bowls - which must be raised from the ground and must not be used in close proximity to the entrance to the tent.

No gathering of wood on the site or in the local area. Wood is available from the reception.

In the interests of safety, BBQ's should be sited well away from the entrance to tents. On no account should spent BBQ's be taken inside tents or caravans, as the residual fumes can still be threatening to life. Fires should not be left unattended in any circumstance.

Well behaved dogs welcome - but must be kept on a lead at all times.


Southdown Way is ideal for exploring the Sussex Countryside, by walking, cycling, on horseback or further afield by train, bus, or car. The train station at Hassocks is situated within easy reach of the campsite and offers regular services to Brighton, the South Coast and London.

The location is also convenient for the south coast resorts of Brighton, Hove, Worthing, Bognor, Littlehampton and Eastbourne. The historic town of Lewes is located about 8 miles away, and London is an hour away by train.

There are beaches all along the south coast from Bognor Regis to Eastbourne, as well as the Brighton Pier and Sea Life Centre, while Chessington World of Adventures is close enough to allow all the family to enjoy a fun packed day.

The closest town is Hassocks, which is home to a wealth of architectural, historic and natural heritage and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. Other places of interest include the pretty towns of Steyning and Bramber. At Arundel there is an impressive Castle and the Arundel Wetland Centre.

Brighton is a 15 minute drive away, where you can visit the Brighton Pavilion, The Marina, shops in the Lanes, walk the promenade or just sit on the beach and enjoy sun and sea.

For those who prefer a more active holiday, Southwater Country Park is nearby where you can enjoy a number of outdoor activities including: swimming in the lake, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, fishing and cycling.

To entertain the children, Fishers Farm Park offers a mix of farm animals and adventure play.
