Thorncombe Farm is a small, family-run camping and glamping site, offering a quiet place to pitch your tent or tourer in beautiful Hardy Country in Dorset. Bell tents are available too if you prefer those home comforts. Close to Dorchester and only a 10-mile hop from the Jurassic Coast, it's a great base for exploring Dorset's many attractions. Campfires are encouraged as it's the perfect place to cook the farm's fresh food, and dogs are welcome.

Why you'll love it at Thorncombe Farm

Rural campsite in the Dorset countryside, just two miles to Dorchester

Ideal base for beaches and fun attractions, 10 miles from the Jurassic Coast

Set on a farm, say hello to the friendly goats in the field next door!

Camping here comes with a friendly welcome and great views over a Dorset valley - not to be missed. Pitches are all grass, with larger pitches available. Guests here enjoy the peace, with hushed voices at night and a relaxing feel - no loud music is allowed to disturb the countryside. An evening around the campfire or BBQ (raised off the ground) is the perfect end to your day. Most pitches are without electric, allowing guests to get fully back to nature, but limited electric hook-ups may be available. If you'd rather stay hassle free, the farm has furnished bell tents which include electric and a mini fridge for all your tasty bits and bobs. You can keep the car light, because deluxe beds are included for four, with the option to sleep two more for a small fee. Completing the homely feel is an undercover table and seating beside your tent, along with your campfire, BBQ and double ring gas stove all your own. Please do bring bedding to keep you toasty at night, however. A maximum of two dogs are welcome to join you for camping or touring, but must be kept on the lead at all times and not left unattended. Sorry, for health and hygiene reasons pets cannot be accepted in the bell tents - under any circumstances. Groups welcome by prior arrangement only - a designated area is available for groups to pitch together, which must be requested in advance.

Thorncombe Farm is open from 01/05 to 30/09.

VW-Type Campervan - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

A great little campsite, near to Dorchester. Friendly and helpful owner. The showers and loos were clean. The pitches were large and we were not told to park a certain way. You could choose the orientation of your van, awning/tent, which I much prefer.

Excellent!

Bell Tent - Bell TentsJul 2024

We had a lovely stay here. The tent was nice and big with comfy beds and a fridge! Ness is very friendly and helpful. We can also recommend the nearby Sun Inn for food.

Yes, you're welcome to bring up to two dogs per camping/touring pitch, provided they are kept on a lead whilst onsite - they are not permitted in bell tents. The local woodland, five minutes from the site, is ideal for dog walking and the nearest beach is 15 minutes away.

Fire pits are available to hire onsite and fire wood is also available to purchase - each bell tent is equipped with its own fire pit.

Thorncombe and Puddleton's lush woodlands are located beside the farm, suited for a range of treks, bike rides, and rides on horseback. If you've come for the coast, the beaches lining the Jurassic Coast are a real treat - don't miss Weymouth's delightful harbour or the views from Chesil Beach (13.8 miles). Why not also soak up the scenery on a trip to Durdle Door (13 miles) or enjoy rockpooling with the kids at Lulworth Cove (13.9 miles). Other local attractions include: *Tutankhamun Exhibition (2.3 miles) *Maiden Castle (5 miles) *Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre (9.3 miles) *Bovington Tank Museum (9.3 miles) *Abbotsbury Gardens (13.2 miles)

Woodland at Thorncombe and Puddleton is right beside the farm, so spoil yourselves with lovely walks, shady bike rides and treks on horse back. To refuel, there's no better option than the freshest of meat and produce from the farm itself, sizzled up on your campfire.

Just a couple of miles away is Dorchester (or Casterbridge as Hardy named it) where little ones will go wild for the Dinosaur Museum and the ancient world comes alive at the Tutankhamun Exhibition. Wash it all down with a lovely tipple in a pub or a tasty bite in the county town's restaurants.

The car will bring you to lashings of sandy beaches along the Jurassic Coast, plus Weymouth's vibrant harbour, or even historic Chesil Beach.

Great places to explore include:

  • Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre
  • Bovington Tank Museum
  • Lulworth Cove
  • Durdle Door
