Things to do on site and in the Brecon area
A holiday in Wales would be nothing without climbing the Brecon Beacons, the ultimate fitness challenge in these parts. You can walk from Pencelli Castle to the highest peak, Pen-Y-Fan, in a little over three hours and once you reach the top it will all be worth it.
The walk leads up past Llanfeugan Church, through open fields and onto the stunning Brecon Beacons. You'll be treated with spectacular views all the way to Pen y Fan. The terrain is mainly gently sloping and grassy without rocks or boulders that would make for danger. Welsh mountain sheep graze on the Beacons and walking is easier over the paths they have created.
The Brecon Beacons National Park has thousands of miles of public footpaths and cycle ways. Several of these connect directly with Pencelli Castle with some being more remote than others. It is possible to walk or cycle all day, surrounded by breathtaking scenery, without meeting anyone.
Beyond the Beacons, Wales has 331 miles of traffic-free rides, perfect for families with children. For lovers of quiet lanes, there are an abundance of options around and if you want to cycle long distance, there's that too.
For rainy days the options are still wide ranging, such as the Indoor Activity Centre in Llangorse, or the Brecon Mountain Railway for a heritage ride around the park. Or take a stroll to the village pub, just 100 metres from the site, to enjoy a meal or drink.
