About Big Barn Camping

Nestled in the Carmarthenshire countryside, the site's 36-acre smallholding makes a superb getaway that will suit the whole family, with guests choosing to revisit time and time again. The site is also close to beaches, major local attractions such as Folly farm, Oakwood Theme Park and Tenby! A small, family-friendly site surrounded by nature to make guests feel relaxed and enjoy a good night's sleep, ready to explore the fantastic coast and countryside. Welcoming tents, trailer tents, small campervans, rooftop tents, and teardrop caravans, the camping paddock is situated on four acres, with only eleven camping pitches means lots of room for everyone. Each pitch is individually cut, so you have a designated area with plenty of space between any neighbours. Guests can even opt for one of the superior grass pitches which are located in their own private field but are still close by to the main camping field and all of the facilities. At this rural retreat, campfires come as a standard, with a fire pit and picnic bench, both at no hire charge. For those who prefer glamping, the site features the Eco Barn Pods and large luxurious 6m Stargazing Glamping Domes. All units boast comfy beds and a camp kitchen area with a two-ring gas stove, kettle, pots, pans, crockery, and utensils for all your cooking needs. The three Eco Barn Pods sleep up to two guests. Two are fitted with a convertible table (also a double bed), and one with a double bed with a memory foam mattress and space to store your clothes and items. All also have picnic benches and fire pits and offer stunning views of the Carmarthenshire countryside. Shared washing and showering facilities are nearby. Sleeping up to four, the Stargazing Glamping Domes are complete with skylights, plenty of space, a double bed, two convertible single beds, private composting toilets, and the main showers close by. There are two domes to choose from, including the Woodland Dome is located adjacent to woodland, providing a totally private retreat. The Valley Dome, on the other hand, is located in the field next to the camping paddock with far reaching views of the countryside. All of the glamping units also have access to outdoor kitchens with a cooking stove, cool box, freezer packs, crockery, utensils, kettle and more! Private hire of the entire site can also be arranged. Please note, this site is with The Greener Camping Club and at least one of your party must be a member. Membership costs £12 for the year and can be bought upon booking, giving you access to all membership sites.

Big Barn Camping is open from 22/03 to 29/09 in 2024 and from 14/03 to 28/09 in 2025.

A note from the site themselves...

After relocation from London in 2016, I can say Carmarthenshire offers so much to guests and visitors and being on the border of Pembrokeshire, there are plenty of great days out on offer, that I am still exploring for myself. Personally, with a huge passion for sustainability and the environment, living on the farm allows me to follow the environmental plan I have in place.

Being a Greener Camping Club site, part of everyone's fee goes towards planting a tree to offset each booking's carbon footprint and help climate change. Here at Big Barn Camping, hundreds of sapling trees have been planted so far, creating new woodland corridors and hedgerows which is a fantastic step in the right direction to sustain wildlife habitats and environments.

Another step taken is using composting toilets (the ultimate eco-friendly water-saving toilet), solar panel lighting, and having an active recycling plan for each pitch, to help us to be green and recycle waste. Each booking is handed a recycling bucket to sort and deposit waste in the correct recycling bins located at the Big Barn. Please take pride and recycle correctly during your stay.

I am proud to say that all guests adopt and enjoy our site for the above reasons. We hope to welcome you soon, Michael

Large Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

Lovely site. Very well kept and laid out. Excellent composting toilets and good communal area. It's a shame that the licence didn't permit a van or roof tent and a separate tent in the same pitch. Fire-pits are a nice touch, though stormy weather stopped us from using them. The site is quite exposed for high wind and the mown grass tracks can get pretty muddy - part of the balance of a truly rural site. Michael, the owner, was engaging and helpful.

Site's response

Thank you for your review, I am so glad you had a lovely stay and also for your comment on the excellent composting toilets as you could see I keep on top of them regularly to ensure they are in tip top condition. Sadly roof tents do tend to be exposed to high wind even though I had allocated you the best pitch close to the hedge, however sadly during your visit the weather was unseasonably poor and storm Lilian did have an impact on your stay, another reason the main mown grass vehicle tracks were muddy due to vehicle tyre compaction, both issues any campsite would experience during such poor weather.

Camping Pod - Little Barn PodsAug 2024

Thank you Michael. We have just returned from a lovely four days in West Wales in an eco pod at the wonderful Big Barn Campsite. Everything was as we'd hoped with the focus on low impact and sustainability. The loos were vey clean and the showers plenty hot. Michael has thought of pretty much everything and there's an honesty shop for whatever you've forgotten. It all made for a great trip! Thanks Jo and Phil.
