About Eden Valley Glamping
A break at this glamping retreat offers guests a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and maybe have a digital detox. The Eden Valley is the lowest population density area in England. Sandwiched between the hills of the Lake District and the Pennine Fells, it's one of Cumbria's best kept secrets with its magnificent scenery and abundant plant, insect bird and animal life. Visitors naturally slow down when they visit and begin to appreciate their surroundings and notice details that had passed them by previously. The pods take their names from the Pennine Fells - Croglin, Melmerby and Cross Fell - and each ensuite pod offers guests an all year round warm, luxurious space. The pods are few in number (no more than three) and as far apart as practical to allow guests to have their own space. Inside there are cooking facilities, your ensuite shower and toilet, and comfy beds. Outside is a fire pit. The large camp kitchen offers a communal space to relax with other guests. Melmerby and Croglin each sleep up to four people, however Cross Fell pod can sleep up to five people. There is also the chance to stay in the Henrietta Train Carriage! This replica train carriage sleeps two and comes equipped with a double bed, kitchen area and ensuite bathroom! Outside there is also a firepit and seating area. In all matters, the ethos of slower, simpler, deeper is what counts here. The aim is for guests to experience the Eden Valley in a deeper way and take away some great lasting memories of their experiences and those they shared them with. Up to two dogs can even join you in Cross Fell and Croglin Pods.
Eden Valley Glamping is open all year round in 2024 and 2025.

There is a wood fired pizza oven down the field with a firepit for enjoying outdoor cooking. The skittle alley and boules court will give plenty of chance for friendly competition.
Onsite you'll find a field with space to play out, facilities for outdoor fires, and on-site sauna, and a selection of outdoor and indoor games. A communal hammock offers guests the opportunity to relax in summer and to stargaze on clear nights (blankets provided).
Cook up a treat in the large communal camp kitchen with cooking, dining, washing and relaxing areas complete with a wood burning stove with integral potato oven.
A sauna onsite is also available to hire, exclusively for guests.
The site is close to the River Eden and Forestry Commission woodland, so good local walking is possible without any need for a car. The area offers abundant bird life with the occasional sighting of red squirrels and otters.
There are local pubs, the Greyhound at Cotehill (two miles) and, in Armathwaite, The Fox and Pheasant, and the Dukes Head - just three miles away. The roads are quiet and popular with cyclists and bike storage is available at the site.
Armathwaite Station on the world famous Carlisle Settle railway is a gateway to the Eden Valley and an amazing piece of engineering heritage with numerous tunnels and viaducts. A journey on the train is a great way to view the wider landscape and visit villages and towns of the Eden Valley and beyond.
The site is also close to the Lake District. Ullswater is 30 minutes by car and the famous Ullswater Steamers are a relaxing way to view the mountains which rise to Helvellyn.
The Pennine Fells are less trodden than the Lake District fells and are attractive to those seeking a greater sense of solitude. There are a number of maps and walking guides in the camp kitchen which are available to guests.
Hadrian's Wall (UNESCO World Heritage Site) is within easy reach and the Fort at Birdoswald (45 minutes drive) sits on the longest continuous stretch of Hadrian's Wall.
The city of Carlisle (20 minutes by car) is worth a visit to see its castle, cathedral and museum. The towns of Penrith (25 minutes by car) and Keswick (45 minutes) are also worth checking out.
