The Batch Campsite is in an idyllic location atop the Mendips with views across the sea. You can choose to go almost wild camping with tent, your own fire pit and forage for wood. Loads of great walking to do and at least half a dozen pubs with restaurants in walking distance. Within easy reach of Cheddar Gorge, Weston and its beaches, Glastonbury and Wells!

Tim is a wonderfully hospitable campsite owner. The location is stunning, with views from the top of the hill down the valley to the Severn estuary. The sunset is caught in the valley between the hills and to sit with a fire pit outside your tent watching the sunset is fabulous. The facilities are basic, but the backpacker price is great value for money.

We had a lovely week at The Batch. The site was exactly as described with basic toilets and a fire pit. The children loved the games field with a badminton net, tire swings and hammocks. The site was very close to different beaches and lots to do in the area.

Thank you. Glad you had a great week.

We loved this back-to-basics tent only campsite. Situated up a rough track on the Batch, it is tranquil with amazing views. The owners are welcoming and extremely helpful (thank you Tim). The camping area has a number of fixed fire pits. Cars cannot access the camping area so gear has to be carried, or use wheelbarrows to ferry stuff. There is a beautiful large orchard with hammocks, benches, rope swings and even a badminton net. We were lucky to spot a roe deer in the orchard one morning. Be prepared for basic facilities, toilets are of the porta potty variety. There are three each in its own stable, which are cleaned regularly. Cold running water is available over a Belfast sink. There is plenty of toilet paper, cleaning materials, and soap at the sink for hand washing. The site is in a convenient location for the Mendips and there are pubs at each end of the track to the campsite, both within easy walking distance. This is a unique site and we will be back.

It's billed as a very simple experience, and it is just that. There are several loos and a sink for washing up; a mirror and handwashing liquid would have been appreciated too. The site itself is lovely with far reaching views, and very good firepits, one for each pitch. The owner made every effort to contact us on our arrival to check everything was in order. Lovely.
Site's response
Thank you for this Kath. Glad you had a good stay. There is a mirror in the first toilet along with disinfectants in all the toilets and washing liquids by the sink. I've just refilled the liquid hand washing dispenser on checks this morning. Hope to see you again! Plenty more waking to do.

Tim is very kind and helped us a lot, including making a fire and introducing the local British café to us. Also, the meat for BBQ marinated by him was very delicious. Definitely will come here again.

You were all great guests and very brave to come camping for the first time in October! Next year, you should visit us in the summer. See you soon.

We were looking for somewhere chilled and wild and this place was perfect. The host was really friendly and helpful and all the other campers were on the same wavelength. The view to the Severn estuary is stunning, lots of lovely wildlife spotted too.

We have just arrived home after a 1 week stay at The Batch Campsite. I've not camped for almost 20 years and was slightly apprehensive, but I needn't have been. This place is just beautiful. Tim was great, very welcoming and knowledgeable. He sent us emails with locations of places and was great with all the kids there! He took them to see the chickens and to collect eggs, have go's on the tractor to name a few. He would check in on everyone and made sure we were always OK and never without, bringing treats to the dog. This morning, he told us there was no rush and we could stay an extra night if we wanted, which was so tempting, but we had to get home to the big dog. The pitches themselves are large and the views that you have are incredible. There's so much to do locally, that you don't need the car as walks are everywhere. There's so much wildlife to admire. Hammocks, tyre swigs, badminton. Something for everyone. We spent the first half of our holiday out and about exploring places and the last few days just relaxing at the campsite. Everyone we met was pleasant and friendly, all the children making friends with each other and playing nicely. My little dog not letting anyone walk past without giving him cuddles, which they all gave in to and did, he thought he was royalty. You definitely need to take a slow drive up to the campsite and make sure you read the email properly so you don't drive past (like I may or may not have done initially) as its difficult to turn around. I was sad to leave this morning, I seem to have fallen in love with Somerset completely, it's an absolutely gorgeous part of the country. We were discussing camping again in the car on the way home and my daughter is adamant that the only place she will go camping now is the batch. I agree. It was fab! I'm really pleased we chose to come here and would definitely go again.

We came as a group for the bell tent, fit 7 of us in perfectly and even had a little play area for badminton and all sorts. Tim provided us a service that we didn't even expect and the pricing is very affordable.

Thank you glad you had a good time. You were all lovely. Great food too!

This is a basic campsite, not quite wild, but with fire pits and it is near loads of great walks.
Site's response
Thank you, glad you enjoyed your stay. That is us, toilets and drinking water, firepits and woods nearby, plenty of space.

Great location with good views, with a few close by pubs that do amazing food. Plenty of places close by either by walking or a short car journey to spend your days from Cheddar Gorge to Wookey hole caves. Also plenty of places to buy and enjoy the local produce. Tim was very welcoming and informative on arrival and can provide anything you need for your stay. Highly recommended!

Lovely and peaceful- haven't felt so relaxed in years. Owner was extremely helpful and considerate of everyone's needs. Very bumpy and uneven road to the camp and advise you to drive slowly, but it only takes 4 minutes to get up that part of the road and worth it once you get to the camp. Would also advise if you have a camping trolley to take that as you can't park on the site, to drop your stuff as the wheelbarrows don't hold as much as a camping trolley. The amenities are basic but kept clean, and was part of the appeal. All said I would definitely go back again! Best time and everyone very friendly.
Site's response
Thank you. We'll look at bigger wheel barrows.

Tim was very kind to us when checking in and showing us around the grounds. Very beautiful view for the sunset, down the street from a pub, separate bathrooms with wash sink outside, and firepits at the pitches. We would definitely stay here again. Road up was a bit rocky but if you drive slow, it's doable, and he did warn us of this via email before our arrival.
Site's response
Thank you. Hope your trip is continuing to be fun!

We liked staying there that much that we booked another night. The owner is a really helpful person, checking up on us and making sure we were having a good time. It was a calm and quiet place with a great view, especially at night. There are also plenty of things to do around the area.
Site's response
Thank you. I'm glad you had a great week. You certainly got a lot done. See you again.

Lovely small rural campsite, it is wild with minimal facilities, great for a couple of nights. Good view as high on hill, track to campsite lots of pot holes, not problem if you have a 4x4! We had a lovely trip and owner very helpful regarding local attractions, pubs etc. nice touch with the fire pits for cooler evenings.
Site's response
Thank you for this. Just to say we have lived here for 8 years and never owned a 4x4. Just drive a bit slower and with a bit more care the first few times. Hope to see you again.

A simple campsite, both dog and child friendly and a great welcome from the host, Tim. Great walks in all directions and it is quite a spaced out small site. Fire pits etc all make it a great place to socialise. My only negative is the approach up is a pretty tough surface, I'd warn cyclists that road bikes probably would struggle the last half a mile climb. Humphrey (my dog) loved it and we will be back soon.
Site's response
Thank you. I hope Humphrey is recovering. We try to warn everyone about the rocky track. Surprisingly cyclists usually like the challenge. See you again.

We stayed only one night. Travelling by bikes, one sport, one scrambler, rocky road to get uphill to the site but sport did it well. Toilets chemical, you can use basin to wash yourself. Good spot for few nights or someone who likes to be on survival mode! Parking away from tents.
Site's response
Thank you. We are almost wild camping, I'm not sure you have to be in survival mode. There is a great pub 400m away. Come and listen to the birdsong and watch the sunset.

I am absolutely delighted that my son found this campsite, which is located just up the track from a pub that was an iconic part of my 20s! Tim was extremely helpful and went the extra mile to ensure that though upon arrival we had misunderstood what was needed upon arrival, we were made welcome and able to borrow a tent temporarily on this occasion - I will return!
Site's response
Good to see you reunited with your own tent last week. Well done! Regarding the 2/5 for facilities, we advertise ourselves as almost wild camping with toilets but no showers. See you again!

My partner, dog and I stayed here for 2 nights. Beautiful view and close to Cheddar Gorge. Our host was friendly and had a lot of information about things to do and places to eat in the area. We stupidly forgot our bedding for the trip and he generously lent us some. He also lent us a few climbing guide books which were extreme helpful. Wonderful experience!
Site's response
Glad you enjoyed it. Lot more climbing to do down here. See you soon.

We arrived by car up a very tiny, wobbly road to eventually find our campsite! We were greated by Tim who showed us around, told us the history of the area and offered us any spare tent equipment as they had it all to lend. So many amazing pubs in gorgeous walking distance as well as the iron age Fort. Don't recommend driving in between your stay, it's very, very rocky. Toilets were super clean and quite cool, again no showers but that wasn't a problem for us. Will come again! P. S. We miss the hammock.
Site's response
Thank you. The hammock is here all summer. We love that you found the toilets spotless and quite cool! See you soon.
