Thorncombe Farm is a small, family-run camping and glamping site, offering a quiet place to pitch your tent or tourer in beautiful Hardy Country in Dorset. Bell tents are available too if you prefer those home comforts. Close to Dorchester and only a 10-mile hop from the Jurassic Coast, it's a great base for exploring Dorset's many attractions. Campfires are encouraged as it's the perfect place to cook the farm's fresh food, and dogs are welcome.

A great little campsite, near to Dorchester. Friendly and helpful owner. The showers and loos were clean. The pitches were large and we were not told to park a certain way. You could choose the orientation of your van, awning/tent, which I much prefer.
Excellent!

We had a lovely stay here. The tent was nice and big with comfy beds and a fridge! Ness is very friendly and helpful. We can also recommend the nearby Sun Inn for food.

Great 💜 The campsite is really quiet and a lovely place. We loved it. Our daughter had a lot of fun with the goats, and my 9 month old son crawled a lot in the grass 🫠We enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back 🤩

We have just come home from a 3 night stay with our two children (6 & 2). The kids loved the site and enjoyed seeing the goats, horses and sheep every day. The campsite was lovely and quiet with lots of green areas for the kids to run around and play. The facilities were clean with spacious bell tents with everything you need for basic camping. The location was ideal as it was quite remote, meaning it was quiet and not too far from Weymouth town centre. We would definitely visit again and highly recommend 🙂

Ness the owner is amazing. She gave us a very warm welcome and she was a character! Toilets, showers and washing-up stations are all clean and maintained. The ground was good for pegs and was also flat and comfortable with no thistles or lumps. You can buy sausages and eggs. We hired a firepit - well worth it. Perfect. Although less facilities than a commercial campsite - much better in my opinion. There are glamping tents available if you can't be bothered to pitch your own. They take caravans, campervans and all sorts. There are electric points in one of the fields.

Lovely stay at Thorncombe Farm. Straightforward to get to from Dorchester for someone without a car (which is not something you can say about all campsites!). Even as a woman on my own, I felt very safe. Comfortable tent, very clean showers and toilets, plus washing up facilities. 2 gas hobs and a fire pit provided for use with a complimentary bag of wood. The picnic table was covered over which would have been handy in case of rain (luckily not needed). Matches, a kettle, cups/bowls/plates and cutlery provided. The goats in the next field are so cute and friendly.

Ness and her husband were so welcoming. Our pitch was overlooking beautiful scenery, we were invited to feed and see the goats which was one reason we picked Thorncombe Farm was because there were farm animals there, but to be able to pet them was great! The toilets and facilities were so clean and smelt lovely, and the goat burgers are a must try! We will definitely be returning soon with the children!

This is a simple farm site with the basics - all you need for countryside comfort. The toilet trailer is clean and efficient, the showers and washing up facilities more than adequate for this small site. There is lots of room for youngsters to play ball games or on their bicycles and sheep and goats to admire. It is situated just up the road from the National Trust properties of Hardy's Cottage and Thornecombe Wood - easy walking distance.

We enjoyed our stay here very much, with our two daughters aged 10 and 12. We stayed in a glamping tent which was equipped with four beds and a fridge and a little storage space. Next to the tent was a picnic table, that was sheltered. There was a cooking stove with two burners, as well as a fire pit with complimentary wood. The camping is on a small farm and our pitch was right next to a field with horses, sheep and goats, who loved to come and be petted in return for fresh handpicked grass. Next to the farm is a large forest which I used for 10K runs. The owners of the farm are very friendly and made sure the facilities were kept clean. In particular I would like to mention the showers, which were better than normal in my experience. All in all a great stay, we would be happy to return.

We had a great stay. Everyone was respectable that was staying, this is dependent on the people staying and not the organisation but I felt that there was mutual respect given from the laid-back, trusting characteristics of the people running the farm 😁 The campsite was very laid-back, but also very useful and informative about how to use the fire pits and look after your area. Highly recommend.

The location was good, not far from Dorchester. It was nice to see/hear the goats and sheep. We hired a fire pit which was good and were able to buy some homemade goat and lamb burgers. We recommend the Holme garden centre for a cream tea (sweet or savoury), lovely outside seating area next to a pond. We booked this campsite because it was described as quiet and peaceful with no loud music allowed and a low noise policy after 9pm. Unfortunately this wasn't the case during our stay. A group of around 7 young men arrived after us and got rowdy throughout the evening. Another guest - a mum on her own with a toddler, felt uneasy so she decided to move to another area (the owner was aware). By 11pm they hadn't quietened down so we asked the owner for help. She came along to speak to them again but as soon as she left, they carried on. My daughter (12), husband and I had no sleep until around 4am. We made the owner aware in the morning. There was also a very large primary school leavers group further along from us (approx 8 families). Although better behaved, they were also very noisy during the day and late into the evenings. They took over most of the campsite field with large rounders games, golf, bikes, chairs, toys left all over the place where other guests had to pick their way through to drive in/out or walk to the facilities. Particularly tricky at night in the dark. There was a fair bit of traffic noise, in the distance but certainly noticeable. Only 4 showers which meant queuing each morning. All in all, the noisiest place we've ever stayed unfortunately, when on this occasion we really just wanted some peace and quiet.
Absolutely great!

Thorncombe Farm bell tents were excellent. Clean, comfy beds and with stove and firepit/bbq supplied, made it easy to get started and to pack up. Nice quiet site with plenty of room between pitches and lots of space for ballgames and baby goats to entertain little ones!

Really enjoyed our first glamping experience - it was so nice to arrive and have the tent ready and waiting for a change! The bell tent was well-equipped with cooking utensils (cutlery, plates, cups, matches, washing-up tub), and also contained three beds (one double, two singles), two side tables, two camping lanterns, a fridge and power points to charge phones/speakers/laptop. No bells and whistles, but fit for purpose and cosy enough. The outside cooking tent was a welcome addition, because it was quite windy with the occasional bit of rain during our stay. We only used the double burner camp stove, but a BBQ with logs was also supplied. The facilities were all simple, but clean and the location was lovely and quiet. The owners had also put us in a bell tent away from the other bell tents, because some families with kids were staying, so that was a thoughtful touch. The area is great for walking and the falconry experience down the road was great as well. The only thing that this site could perhaps do to improve would be to share some information on local walks and activities, maybe on a message board somewhere. But yeah, that's the only bit of constructive criticism really, we definitely had a great stay!

A peaceful sunny site with clean facilities. Had sun until 9pm and again at 5am. Lovely countryside nearby. Only downside is you can't walk anywhere from the site unless you walk on the narrow lane without pavement, which although not a busy road is not ideal for a relaxing stroll with dog. Perfect for an overnight stay or longer if you are using it as a base for days out in the beautiful area.
