About the site

A back-to-basics off-grid campsite nestled away in the heart of the Sussex countryside, five minutes from the Bluebell Railway. This is a great choice for those looking to have a traditional authentic camping experience. A maximum of 15 bookings are allowed onsite at any one time, and all the pitches are non electric on grass for tents and allow up to six people each. There are four different fields on the site each with their own unique character. When you arrive you are in charge or where you pitch and can choose from any of the fields. The top field has pitches with far reaching views including some right across to the South Downs. The lower pitches are secluded tree lined meadows tucked away near the valley bottom. The campsite is just a five minute walk from the picturesque village of West Hoathly, where you can find two fantastic village pubs, both serving excellent food. The Priest House museum is also in the village centre for those interested in local history. Campfires are allowed and firewood can be purchased on arrival at the site. Well behaved dogs are welcome onsite.

The campsite is open for weekends between 2nd May and 7th September.

A note from the site themselves...

The campsite is run on our family farm in Sussex. It started in 2008 after we said a sad goodbye to our dairy cows and embarked on new ventures to support our little farm. To this day our ethos has been 'almost wild' camping, and we have been overwhelmed by the response from our campers (many of whom have stayed with us since the beginning).

It is clear to us that there is a real desire for a camping experience which is on the 'natural' side, no big site road, no buildings, just a campsite where everyone can decide if they want to tuck in to a quiet pitch on the woodland edge, or setup with friends in the main field and play games.

We have loved welcoming a campers from all over the place and take pride in our site and how it is managed. We enjoy seeing the wildlife flourish and often campers show us pictures they have taken - everything from birds of prey, fallow deer and kingfishers.

Small Tent - Non Electric Grass PitchesSep 2024

Ridiculously spacious, there weren't even really any pitches at all, just a few fields surrounded by woodland where you could pitch wherever. Very quiet, all I could hear at night were owls, and very serene. Would recommend to those who are not put off by composting loos.

Nice place and nice welcome

FAQ

Group bookings of any kind are not permitted. However, if you have friends who are also staying onsite then you can specify at booking and the site will do their best to pitch you alongside each other.

You can park right next to your pitch so no lugging stuff from a car park, just check-in, find a spot you like, park and pitch. The spacious nature of the site means you will have plenty of room and can decide if you want shade, sun, a view, seclusion or a mixture.

Check-in is from 11am until 7:30pm, departure is before 2pm on your last day.

You are welcome to bring an awning, gazebo and pup tent with you, free of charge.

Open fires are only permitted in raised fire pits. Barbecues must also be raised off the ground. Firewood, kindling and other campfire items will be available to purchase at reception. If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.
