Birchbank is a small campsite on a Lake District sheep farm, located on the fells between Coniston Water and the Duddon Estuary. The site has a small stream running through it which the children love to play in and is next to the fell, with footpaths and bridleways directly from the gate making it ideal for walking and cycling.

This site delivered absolutely everything I was looking for. Peace and quiet, with endless walks for me and 'mans best friend'. The scenery was to die for and all on the door step. The welcome I got was lovely and the facilities were great. I will 100% be returning, it was lovely.👍

Camp site well marked to find from the roads, even in the driving rain and dark! Easy check in. Toilets and wash-up room clean and serviceable. Pitches good size and well marked, level and tidy. Site is quite remote (not a problem for us, good pub ~10 mins easy drive away had hot food & fire). Lots of footpaths and exploring possible from site. Stream running through site would be delightful in warmer/drier weather.

We stayed 2 nights in our camper with awning, it was £20 a night. Next to a working farm. We arrived and found our own pitch which were clearly marked. The toilets were clean and there were nice hot showers. There were facilities to wash your pots. Multiple trails directly from the camp site, we hiked to beacon tarn (around 1.5 hours) and turned this into a circular route via Cumbria way. Then heading west. 25 min drive to Coniston. It was very quiet at night.

An amazing campsite, on a working Farm and my little boy loved it. The toilets and showers were so clean and the location was so tranquil. Would give more than 5 stars if I could.

First time ever being here. I had a really nice time and although my vehicle had everything I needed, their facilities were clean and well maintained. The location was literally a mile and a bit from the Cumbria way. Would definitely go again.
Nice, very rural

Lovely scenes as rural, hearing cows and nothing else. At a farm so expect some sort of noises but lovely and peaceful. Everything worked. What you expect and get for camping.

A campsite set amongst the most tranquil settings, surrounded by green fields and gorgeous views. The campsite itself is family friendly and relaxed, as well as a beautiful drive to it. Facilities are standard, a little on the rugged side but that was to be expected. All in all we would certainly visit again, a lovely atmosphere for a chilled out evening!

We went only for one night but we will definitely be back. Very nice and quiet place, gorgeous views. Owner very friendly and facilities basic, but good enough for what we needed, also very clean.

Could've had flag stones for vehicles, especially for campers. There was no one to greet on check in, just a note picking where to go. Other than that, it was peaceful and good value for money.
Site's response
Sorry, I was at a family event on Sunday when you arrived.

Pitches not flat, layer of rock under ground making pegs impossible to hammer in. Rain made access to the pitches very difficult due to the mud and no proper path through. Also, the campsite is inaccessible via one of the roads. Google maps took us this way and our cars almost got stuck.
Site's response
Unfortunately we have had 7.5 inches of rain with high winds in one week which made the tracks and some pitches wet and muddy. Most of the pitches are level but one field has flat areas and some pitches on the top of the hill, but pitches are not allocated so campers may choose their pitch. Please follow the directions on Campsites.co.uk or my website for the camping site, not your satellite navigation system as this can take you through three gates or over a rough track which is not suitable for motor vehicles.

Amazing location. Facilities were good. Site got a little water logged due to not great weather but we still had a great time for our 3 year olds first camping experience.

Lovely, scenic campsite. Unfortunately, we only did one night due to the extreme weather, but it was a lovely spot and we will definitely return when the weather is kinder.

We stayed for 2 nights as it was our children's first experience in a tent and they loved it. The site was quiet and peaceful and the children loved playing in the stream on site. We will most likely be making more trips in our tent.

My partner & I stayed with a group of friends here for a week, the site itself is lovely and has beautiful surroundings as well as well kept toilets & showers. Although it was fairly busy, there was plenty of room & we had enough privacy, will be back.

A decent campsite with electric and non-electric pitches and nice views of rolling countryside. There were 3 toilets, 2 showers and a kitchen sink for washing up. There was also access to fridge/freezer and washing machine if needed, drinking water on site. A small stream running through the campsite, which is on a working farm. Small single track on a public road with access to the site. You do need to go through a couple of gates to get into it. The hosts were friendly and helpful.
Site's response
There is a better road into Birchbank with no gates, see the directions we provide. We have another toilet and shower which you must have missed.

Lovely quiet site and friendly hosts. Good walks straight from the site with 3 walks with instructions and map to borrow ranging from 45 minutes to 3 hours, straight from the site. Off the main roads but still handy to visit the Lakes.

We had a fabulous few days at Birchbank farm, a lovely, peaceful little campsite with beautiful views all around. Lovely little stream running through, which my children loved playing in. Facilities were lovely and clean and were cleaned daily by the owner. Washing machine and dryer facilities if needed at reasonable cost, not in walking distance of shops or pubs but only a short drive to Ulverston.

This was our first ever camp and we were very pleasantly surprised. The site was cheaper per night that some of the others we looked at, but it had everything you could need - multiple toilets and showers, a washing up room, drinking water, a stream and even horses!
