From here you can enjoy a relaxing, peaceful holiday and reconnect with nature. The landscape is stunning, wildlife is spectacular and the dark skies are incredible. It's a family friendly site with great amenities and the owners live on site, so they're on hand to make your stay a special and memorable one.

About Hadrian's Wall Camping and Caravan Site

It's a special feeling to step out onto the grass on the first morning of your holiday, the fresh air and immediate views of open countryside. Leave behind the world of work, mobile and emails - and just relax and enjoy! Owners Steve and Tracy are midlife crisis people who turned their backs on the daily grind and purchased this very special place in 2019. They are also experienced camping and motorhome folk who love the outdoors and particularly fell walking. Thanks to the M6 and the M1/ A1, access is really straightforward and it's not too far to come for a lovely holiday from urban areas like Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Haltwhistle, a market town famous as the centre of Britain is only a 10 minute drive away with a regular bus and train service. For many guests, being located temptingly close to the best section of Hadrian's Wall is the main motivation for staying here. Head out on foot, make a quick right turn and it's just a 15 minute walk to the northern boundary of the Roman Empire. The views and the landscaping are fantastic, at any time of year. Both the Sill Discovery Centre and the open air Roman museum Vindolanda are in walking distance! Small, picturesque and friendly are the words that spring to mind for this site with its grass and hardstanding pitches, each offering optional electric. The resident chickens and ducks are sure to be a big hit with younger campers and the site is also very dog friendly with several off lead dog walks on its doorstep!

The site is open for camping and touring all year round, with bell tent glamping available from 17th May and shepherd's hut glamping from July.

Activities at this campsite centre around fabulous Hadrian's Wall with its history and great walking. A significant portion of the wall still stands near the campsite and can be followed on foot along the adjoining footpath.

Hadrian's wall is the largest roman structure in Britain and was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1987. The Sill, the new award winning landscape discovery centre for the national park is less than two miles from the site.

Of course this area has a lot to offer beyond the Romans. The site is ideally located for the coast to coast cycle route and there is an endless range of walking and cycling routes as well as fishing opportunities on the Tyne.

The landscape here is so beautiful it attracts artists, photographers and wildlife enthusiasts. Bring a torch as the campsite is a designated Dark Sky site, there is no light pollution here!

The Tyne is reported to be the best river system for salmon and sea trout in England and Wales. The quality as well as the quantity of fish is superb and much work has been done to improve water quality and breeding grounds. The fishing season begins in February and the campsite can help with guides and classes for beginners. If you stay in October you will witness the famous salmon leap!

Hadrian's wall campsite actually sits on two national cycle routes, route 72 is the Hadrian's cycleway that passes by the campsite following the wall whilst route 68, the Pennine Way, passes near in a north-south direction. The owners can recommend several day or half day cycle routes locally, some with a pub half way!

Northumberland is England's most sparsely populated county and its minor roads are usually deserted and as such is a big attraction for touring motorcycles. The quiet roads meander from village to village where the open landscape and clear sight-lines make motorcycling enjoyable. Add welcoming locals and great hospitality and you have the perfect touring destination.

Culinary delights! There is some delightful, fresh and organic offerings on the campsite in the busy season which includes a campfire stew for Friday arrivals. Steve is the perfect host and the site also offers breakfast. Everything is locally sourced and organic when available.

Try the local pubs for great food and there are some excellent French, Italian, British and Indian restaurants in nearby Hexham and in the historic village of Corbridge. One of the best Indian restaurants in the North of England is located at Corbridge railway station and the curry train is a firm favourite from Haltwhistle station.

Kielder Forest is the largest plantation in England which surrounds Kielder Water and Kielder village. Here you can stargaze from Kielder Observatory, cycle or walk on forest paths and enjoy sailing or canoeing on the water.

There is a bird of prey experience at Simonburn which is 20 mins away by car and there is a bird of prey centre at Kielder which boasts owls, eagles, hawks, falcons and vultures. Two of the best success stories of the area is the re-introduction of the red kite and the work to protect the red squirrel population, you will see both regularly in and around the campsite.

The campsite is only 35 minutes from the National Trust house and gardens at Wallington Hall which is an excellent visit for children and adults alike. The National trust also owns Cragside in the North of the county which was the first home in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity! English Heritage own Belsay Hall which is 45 minutes away.

Rumour has it that there are more castles in Northumberland than any other county in England. They are spectacular. You can visit the coast to see Bamburgh and Dunstaburgh castles just to name a couple. Harry Potter fans will really enjoy Alnwick castle where you can also enjoy the beautiful Alnwick gardens.

If you can't enjoy your holiday without a good shopping trip, the vibrant city of Newcastle is less than an hour's drive away or you can take the train from Haltwhistle directly into the city and enjoy the bars, restaurants and theatre experiences that the city offers.
