Large Tent - Large Non Electric Grass PitchesAug 2024

Very good site overall. Large site with various fields each with different features, such as quiet field next to play area. Quiet fields away from toilet block or the more busy family field in middle of everything. We went for the top field which was near the hedging as we arrived with some high winds. Some of the families were very loud in other areas of the campsite. There was no orientation to the site, no information about opening times for toilet blocks or about the pizza van or ice creams. When using male's toilet block first morning, the staff cleaning said all the hot water was off and showers not working, email sent to site and no response. But, the ladies showers were working? 5 minutes later and the men's showers were actually hot and working. Found very odd. Showers and toilets were kept well clean and plenty enough for the site, even over busy weekend they weren't ever full when we visited. Men's block was bit more dirty at times, but only as what you'd expect with a full campsite using them. Pizza bus on site was very very expensive. £43 for 3 12inch pizzas. Sign was misleading on when open, 5pm to late, but not that it was only Friday and Saturday. Playground was quite muddy in places, massive puddles under swings and other parts. Did dry a little as the days went on and there was no rain, but water still stayed in the large, well worn holes. Overall, the quiet zones were not quiet, and it was so busy on the weekend that you couldn't move for cars, tents, children and dogs. Very noisy in some areas well past 10pm. Luckily, top field was away enough from the large party groups to not be too disturbing for us. Steep hill down to the popular Oxwich Bay, some nice local coastal walks and Horton Bay a 45 min ish coastal walk to from campsite if you wanted a quieter beach. Castle was closed for walking up, but you still had some fantastic views of it from the site. Site was in good condition even with recent rain. Only mud was under trees or on very well walked areas, very little! Children walked about bare foot over the grass most of the time on site. Very clean and tidy site, except that bins were all over flowing for first 2 days. Unsure if this was due to bank holiday delaying bin collections or just due to a busy site over previous weekend. Pitches not marked so some tenants were very close to each other. Wasn't an issue for us and our neighbours were very friendly, but I could see some being a bit put out that site got so busy that tents needed to be pitched with little space between. Good base camp for Gower region and would come back as would have knowledge of the site and offerings.
