Great campsite in a great location. Great facilities, large pool and playing field, onsite shop. Toilet block and showers were clean and unlike other campsites we have been to previously, we never found ourselves having to queue for either. We were a group of 16 made up of 4 families, we liked that you could pitch wherever as it meant we could set up our tents in a way that gave us privacy from other campers.

We had such a lovely stay here this bank holiday weekend and can't believe that we haven't seen it sooner. We'd definitely go back. The highlight for us was the pool as we love water and it was brilliant that it was open all day and you don't have to book specific times. The diving board was a great added extra for playing on. The staff were all friendly and polite, the site was well managed and we loved bat watching on the evenings. Some evenings, there was local entertainment which you can join in on or not, it's got the best of both worlds in a lovely, laid back manner. Location wise, great location for beaches, surf, local attractions such as Camel's Creek theme park. We really enjoyed our stay and happy we've found a gem of a campsite to return to.

Not suitable for larger caravans

This is not suitable for larger caravans due to access issues with all the entrance/exits to the site. I have a twin axle 8ft wide 26ft long caravan and even though I am an experienced tourer (over twenty years) I struggled with all of the access/egress points. In one access point I had to motor move the van. Whilst exiting a different exit, I was approached by another tourer who has a smaller van and he informed me not to use this particular exit as a similar large van had been damaged last year. The site itself comprises large fields with or without electric hook up. It is a free for all as you get to pick where you want to hook up. Whilst this initially could be advantageous, it actually can be the opposite with tents and caravans setting up as they wish, sprawling out and accessing/ leaving with vehicles driving everywhere. I was really disappointed with the waste management as all the bins were overflowing, with waste falling out. Shower and toilet facilities were okay and very large outdoor wash up area. I have no issue with cost of site and it is okay for access to surrounding area such as Padstow etc. This is reflected in review. There is regular aircraft flying overhead due to airport nearby but otherwise, it is relatively quiet, apart from when vehicles are driving all over the field and down to the toilet block.
Site's response
Hi Richard, thanks for taking the time to leave this review, feedback positive or negative is important. You are correct that large caravans are not suitable here, we do explain that anything over 8m in length won't fit and anything longer than 7m to get in touch with us for a description on how best to access the site. For better or worse, much of the site is listed and we are restricted in the changes we make to the place, the granite entrance posts fall under this so we have to make do with what we have. The freedom we give people on pitching is one part of what sets us apart here from places that have very regimented spots. As the place gets busier however, we do start to have a conversation with everyone that arrives and help them make a decision on where to go. We certainly don't want it to become a free for all and it is more closely managed when it needs to be. I'm sorry if you found it a bit chaotic, normally it all falls into place quite nicely. I completely agree with you that waste management was disappointing while you were staying with us. Our suppliers for waste removal unfortunately let us down acted outside of our agreement, lifting our waste three days later than organised. This will be a one off, but sadly you saw it at its worst. Thanks again for the feedback, I hope despite the issues, you had a good stay. All the best, Trewan.

Had a lovely stay. Site was clean and had great facilities. Showers were hot clean and not on a stupid push button. Staff were helpful and friendly and at £18 for the night, great value (I've stayed at many others at twice the price and haven't enjoyed half as much) - 5 star all the way!!

We really enjoyed our stay, right from the start the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Facilities were great, my 2 boys (8 & 13) really enjoyed the pool and ping pong 🏓 We found the location central to a lot of the action, 30 mins to Eden Project, 20 mins to Newquay and about 45 mins to Tintagel Castle. There was live music and a wood fired pizza which also went down well with us. Would definitely go back and recommend.

Brilliant campsite, plenty of entertainment, unbelievable orchestra on our first night followed by a very talented Rock band. Had us all singing the night away. With freshly baked pastries to die for, fresh each day at the shop. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Nothing was any trouble and went out of their way to help you. Facilities were spotless. Site was close by some shops only 10 min walk and a cracking beach only 4 miles away. Plenty of routes for running and cycling. A trip to Padstow is worth it just for the fish & chips at Rick Steins chippy. Will defo be back.

This is a great campsite. Very quiet, people were awesome and friendly, very helpful. Free Wi-Fi in the library was great and I loved browsing the books. Look out for Century (huge book!) which has 100 years in pictures. Facilities were well kept and maintained, very nice. Fantastic looking pool and the ping pong tables were great, and undercover, so a great wet weather activity. (take your own paddles and ball or purchase cheap versions in the shop. Well stocked shop. Minor negatives, mostly due to the fact that we didn't stay in Peak season (although it was end of June!) - this was what lost the stars for the site for us. Be aware that there are noisy cows in the barn next door early every morning if you camp down the bottom of the non-electric field. If feel that more showers will be needed in peak period. We had 2 for the ladies. Swimming pool was not open when we were there. We struggled a little with access to the freezer to sort out ice blocks due to limited opening hours (but we were often out before 9am and home late after dinner) but you will be fine if you are in peak season or not out all day as we were. Overall a lovely campsite - wouldn't hesitate to visit again or recommend it. Loved it!

This is a premium camping and caravan site with modern amenities. It is clear the site has evolved through generations of development and improvements in increments. The result is a stunning site with beautiful surroundings, plenty of events very quiet and what looks like superb entertainment for children and adults alike. I would highly recommend.

Excellent site, very laid back. Showers/toilets were spotless, handy covered washing up area. It was nice to be able to have a fire pit in the evenings. Lots of mature woodland on the site to explore and parts of the house also open to campers I had a lovely peaceful stay, although I should imagine it is a lot busier in high season.

Great value for money. I shared a great big field with 3 other campervans/motorhome. Very friendly staff. 20 minutes hilly walk to St Columb Major which has 4 pubs, a post office a Co-op store and other shops. 10 to 15 minutes drive to lovely beach at Mawgan Porth.
