About Tipis at Ponty

Located in scenic Wales yet close to England's county of Shropshire, this is a peaceful space where adults and their furry friends can unwind. It's a small site, run solely by the owners, Ian and Jane, ensuring a very personal touch. From fully furnished yurts and cabins to simple tent pitches and wild Tipis (rent a tent), guests can choose their preferred camping experience. Set on the banks of the River Cain, campers are welcome to fish or admire the stunning views. Plus, with no cars on-site, guests can enjoy quiet moments by the campfire. Yurt Mary and Cabin Rita, located on the main site, are entirely furnished and ideal for those wanting a glamping experience. Both are equipped with all you need, including solar-powered lighting, a personal cooking area, bedding, towels and cooking equipment, an off-grid hot shower, and a compost toilet, though guests are welcome to use shared amenities. Placed by the riverside, Tipis Mavis, situated at the hill's base, has a cooking pod, fire pit, bed, log burning stove, and cooking equipment. Please note, bedding is not provided. The main site is home to three spacious tent pitches, Daffyd (at the top of the hill), Algie and Don Don (located both at the bottom of the hill with a shared open-air shelter next to the river). These pitches have brilliant views and come complete with a fire pit and rustic seating. On the adjacent field to the main site, you'll find a 'wild camping area' with separate facilities. It's home to a Wild Tipi (rent a tent) for those who want the full camping experience without buying a tent. This features a bed and a log-burning stove, and outside there is a fire pit. There are also four non electric grass pitches here, located in a sectioned-off area by the river. The wild camping areas are serviced by an off grid hot shower and two compost toilets. To maintain the site's tranquillity, cars are not allowed. Not to worry - wheelbarrows are provided for easy transportation within the site. The paddock doubles up for both guests and their furry pals to stretch, play, and unwind. You might even catch a glimpse of a playful otter, kingfisher or heron. The site is also home to a herd of rare Jacob sheep, who will be your neighbours throughout the stay, alongside a couple of uncommon pig breeds, chickens and ducks. Please note, the site is a member of the Greener Camping Club so one person per party must be a member, but this can be added on when you book.

Open from 25 March to 9 September

Facilities and amenities

All the pitches and glamping units on the main site benefit from the use of shared facilities including two wet rooms with a toilet, sink and shower. There is also a shared kitchenette with a fridge, freezer, microwave, kettle and washing up facilities.

The 'Sunset Shack' sits at the top of the hill with soft seating, a dining area with a double ring cooking stove. Games, cards and books are available, as well as candles and blankets. Algie and Don Don also share an open air shelter.

For those on the 'wild camping area', facilities include an off-grid shower and two off-grid toilets and drinking water.

For everyone, there is an onsite shop offering essentials and homemade produce with an honesty box, along with a paddock to let dogs run around in. A note from the site themselves...

Ian and I (Jane) have set this site up to hopefully offer people some peace in a lovely part of Wales, the site has evolved with us cherry-picking ideas from many years of camping in the UK and abroad!

We have endeavoured to create a space that allows adults and their four-legged friends to unwind and relax.

We are happy to help advise on trips out, but we totally understand those who switch off. Having no cars on the site for us ensures quiet as much as possible and, on clear nights, allows people to see the fantastic starry nights whilst sitting by their campfire.

We hope our little touches of blankets and hot water bottles... spare plates, knives, forks and mugs help relieve stress if things have been forgotten! We listen to feedback and are constantly striving to improve the site. We look forward to welcoming you soon, Jane
