Nothing special

Lovely location but place felt very run down in comparison to other sites which we paid a similar price for. There are no laundry facilities. Neither male nor female toilets has hand drying facilities. Often, neither had any toilet roll. Handle for ladies toilets was broken off. Did not use the showers after another camper who also had eczema suggested that the cleanliness had impacted her skin. Other pitches who paid for electric didn't have any. Bins were overflowing. No sanitary bins in the ladies so used sanitary products were put into a normal bin! In comparison to other sites, we would not be returning.
Very basic

They say the aim is to keep the site as traditional as possible. It actually means not well kept since 40 years and dirty everywhere you look. The sceptic tank smells. The bins are overflowing. A mess. No owner or site warden present.

As previous reviews have said, the facilities are very basic and could benefit from a deep clean. Not the most pleasant, but functional and served for what we needed. Skips overflowing all the time I was there, but except that, it was OK. The location was nice. So yeah, all in all, okay. We would go back. Thanks.
Great!

The facilities were dirty. Only 2 showers. Hot and cold water while showering. No play area for kids. Very windy. Sheep close by, so noisy. The location was good. It's a very basic campsite. Expensive for what it is, on a farm. The owner was friendly and helpful, but I wouldn't stay there again with a family.

We stayed for one night while travelling. Very friendly owner, nice location and good pitches. The toilets and showers however were very, very dirty.

Toilets filthy and run down. Post holding roof up rotten. Septic tank smell unbearable at times. I felt there were too many units in each area for safety.
Basic but very pleasant

Basic, but we thought this was reflected in the price. We were disappointed that there were no walks direct from the site. Felt the lane outside the camp was far too dangerous for pedestrians with dogs to walk. We appreciate this was not any fault of Whinfell, but it will affect our choice in the future. No shops nearby so stock up before your stay. Nice location and handy for Buttermere. Our stay was pleasant and peaceful.
Not very good

Not very good. Cold showers only 2 toilets between the whole of the site. Site was good for older people, not many children. Could do with more toilets as there were only 2 male for over 50 plus people.
Would definitely recommend!

I stayed at Whinfell Farm and had a great time. The location is great with such amazing views all around. It was quite quiet so had plenty of room and was never a queue for the bathroom. The bathroom/showers were pretty basic but personally didn't affect the trip at all as were good enough! Would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a break away.

Fantastic campsite. All facilities well maintained. Stress free. Great environment. Great variety of pitches. Driving distance to lots of sites and areas. Staff/owner was nice and friendly. Rules are reasonable and adhered to. Some nice pitches with tree cover too. Would highly recommend and will be returning in the future. Thanks.
Toilet and shower facilities need some work

Nice location. Unfortunately, our experience was ruined by toilets/showers/washrooms. Those definitely needs working on, as they're quite dirty, outdated and the electric showers are not working properly. No washing machine, bin area was not cleaned and bins emptied the entire 3 days. They were overflowing with rubbish.

Nice site. The pitches could be a bit bigger but just big enough for a family of 4.
Not great, owner had gone on holiday

Not great, owner had gone on holiday and left someone else in charge. We were not told which field had electric. The shower and toilets were dirty but on our second day, someone came to clean them. No cleaning items (like mops) there to self clean. Not up to standard for price paid. No Reception, or welcome. Had to search for electric. Toilets and showers unclean. No equipment to clean.

First time camping for a few years. Picked the site for location. Facilities are a basic, however this works fine for us. Met likewise friendly people on site. We will visit again.

Great location, has everything you need but very basic facilities. There is also no waste disposal but it does say that when booking.
No problem at all

Very happy with our stay, old fashioned facilities but everything worked perfectly and it was mopped daily! Lovely location!

Last minute decision to have a couple of days in the Lake District. Just 4 miles from Cockermouth but far enough to be out of the way! Andrew, our host, was a pleasant and friendly chap. He was not obtrusive and left you alone but was only a phone call away if any help or advice was needed.

Practical, decent facilities. We didn't stay long as we used it for a quick stop over so late night, early start. Couldn't get hold of the staff on site when we arrived so we just pitched ourselves.

The camping was good value for money. Facilities are rather basic but the campsite description is honest about this. Grass pitches are nice. The host was quite helpful and on site most of the time.
