You don't have to get all the way to Australia's outback to find a great holiday! Ayres Rock offers a peaceful, dog friendly break right by the beach - with all the serenity of the Isle of Sanday around you.

Why you'll love it at Ayres Rock

About the site

Pitches are not allocated, so pull up wherever you best like the view and, although the site is slightly sloping, there are blocks to help you get in place. For a faff free break, a trio of camping pods offer shelter, protection from the elements and handy extras like heating and lighting. You can pop an air bed in the car and use that inside, or if you travel light, the site can supply beds and futons. There is also a hostel on site, perfect for friends who don't want to camp. You can even hire out the entire hostel, pods and pitches and have the site all to yourself.

The island is a bit of a watersport fan's heaven, with windsurfing spots, kayaking and even the all-action option of steaming along on a Blokart buggy. Just a walk along the beach, feeling like you're the only person on the island, is something to remember.

Tee off at Sanday Golf, bring your reel to fish for a whopper and pedal off with local bike hire. You'll be glad to hear it's a mainly flat and yet incredibly beautiful part of the Orkney Isles.

Sanday's wildlife is a treat and history buffs can go on the hunt for the sites that tell the story of brave activities during World War II.
