Just a short distance from the park is the beautiful southern shores of Windermere. Here, you'll have easy access to water activities including boat and canoe hire, sailing, lake cruises to Bowness and Ambleside in the north, restaurants, shopping, and a variety of walking and cycling routes.

To the north lies the enthralling Lakeland fells and pristine waters for which the Lake District is famous for. A lake cruise or short drive will take you to the hugely popular town of Bowness-on-Windermere offering beautiful views of the northern fells, visitor attractions, and an abundance of shops and restaurants.

A little further up the road is Windermere, a small town offering a great variety of local shops and eateries.

The ancient village of Cartmel with its famous priory, award winning restaurants including L'Enclume is just a short tummy rumble away. Stick around to try the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding or make a day of it at Cartmel Racecourse, which is just five miles from the park's front door.

On the Cartmel peninsula, overlooking Morecambe Bay, you'll find the seaside town of Grange-over-Sands. With a selection of shops and restaurants, and a long promenade, it's a great place to spend a leisurely day.

Other local attractions include the Lakeland Motor Museum - home to some 30,000 exhibits, and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway.
