About Finchale Abbey Touring Park
Finchale Abbey is a family-run touring park that has been with the current owners since 1951. The peace and tranquillity here encourages visitors from all over the world to return time and again. The park is ideally situated for visiting all of County Durham's highlights, being less than an hours drive from sea, Dales, Moors, towns and cities - and only four miles from the historic city of Durham. Standard electric plots have a concrete base with grassed area beside and 10-Amp electricity, with space for an awning. A selection of these are set on a grass base. The fully serviced plots offer a concrete base with mains water, grey water disposal and dedicated 16-Amp electric. If you fancy, the park also has two bespoke, handmade camping pods where you can enjoy camping without roughing it. The pods have lights, heating and electric sockets so you can charge your phone use. All pods benefit from being fully insulated and double glazed, with lockable front doors. Inside there are two full size single beds (which can be pushed together if desired). Outside furniture is provided so that you can enjoy the evenings too. There is also a self catering apartment on the park which can sleep six. Well behaved dogs are very welcome, but must be kept on a lead while around the park.

Things to do on site and in the Durham area
There are many places of interest in the local area, ranging from the historic city of Durham with its castle and cathedral, to golf courses and the Sealife Centre. The following attractions are all within an easy drive of the park.
Finchale Abbey - in the 12th century, the hermit St Godric built a shelter here. Later a 13th century Benedictine Priory was established as a holiday retreat for monks from Durham cathedral. The priory (now in ruins) is run by English Heritage to preserve it for future generations.
Cocken Lodge Golf Course and Driving Range - this golf course is easily within walking distance of the caravan park and offers all you would expect from a nine hole course. The course also has a bar which welcomes patrons of the caravan park, children also welcome.
Durham City - the fabulous cathedral and castle tower above the medieval city, still echoing the importance of Durham as the Prince Bishops' seat of power and government. Since 1836 the castle has housed University College, the foundation college of England's third oldest university.
Beamish Open Air Museum - which vividly recreates life in the North of England in the early 1800's and 1900's. Costumed staff welcome visitors to the turn of the century with a range of authentic shops and businesses. You can go underground to a real drift mine, or visit a housewife baking bread in the farmhouse kitchen. A visit to Beamish takes a full day and is enjoyable for all the family.
