Things to do on site and in the Lewes area
The big draw when coming to the site is undoubtedly its position within the South Downs National Park. Although one of England's newest national parks, its combination of rolling hills, ancient forest, and dramatic coastline of white chalk cliffs means it has attracted locals and visitors alike for many years.
In addition to its incredible 3,300 kilometres of rights of way for walkers, including the South Downs long-distance walking path itself, there are a wide array of routes suitable for cyclists looking for some off-road action, and horse-riders old and new too, with plenty of stables in which to jump onto a horse for the first time.
Just five minutes away you'll find Lewes, home to an incredible Norman-era castle, the remains of Lewes Priory, and the Tudor splendour of Ann of Cleves House. The town is something of a haven for antique collectors and book lovers, highlighted by the presence of a second-hand bookshop situated within a tumbledown fifteenth-century building.
Brighton (20 minutes) offers the traditional Victorian English seafront, complete with pier, fish and chip stalls, and seagulls. Brighton Pavilion is an astonishing architectural wonder built by the Prince Regent in the 1800s, while The Lanes offer a boutique, independent and quirky shopping experience.
For making the most of the summer weather, Rottingdean Beach is just a 20 minute drive away. The pebbled shores are perfect for a day of sunbathing, whilst the calm blue waters are perfect for swimming or paddleboarding.
