A note from the site themselves...

Ghyll Head Outdoor Centre has been visited by school students for over 50 years as part of an organised course. We wanted to give those participants the opportunity to visit the Lake District once again this time with their friends and families.

Camping is wonderful and is in the centre's DNA, however, we wanted a year round option that reduced the barriers for families that don't have a garage full of camping kit and allowed them to enjoy a "camping lite" experience.

We are really proud of the way the site is living up to those expectations. The feedback we have received has been phenomenal, especially around the quality of the facilities and overall family friendly vibe.

Camping Pod - Three Person Camping (Pod 1, Dog Friendly)Nov 2024

As I mentioned to the manager this morning, it would be useful to put the following info. In the kitchen area, no glasses, bowls, mugs or cutlery. We didn't realise. When we saw that there was a kitchen, we assumed these would be available and so had none with us which spoiled our evening a little bit. However, we went to the local charity shop and bought stuff there the next day. Also, no hooks outside pod 1. In general though, loved the situation and the pod. BBQ area is a great idea.

It was a lovely stay

Camping Pod - Five Person Camping (Pod 3, Dog Friendly)Oct 2024

1st night we felt there was a lot of rain, but actually it was the sound of the stream! The pod itself was fit for purpose and the bed is comfortable. The whole area is well kept and maintained. Clean and tidy.

A comfortable stay

Camping Pod - Three Person Camping (Pod 1, Dog Friendly)Sep 2024

Two of us stayed in a 3 bed pod and it was very comfortable. It was surprisingly warm and cosy with underfloor heating plus a radiator if needed. It has been previously mentioned in other reviews, but there were absolutely no hooks and only one, small shelf. A few hooks and shelves would definitely make life easier but not a deal breaker!! The location was lovely and quiet but not really walkable to Bowness due to a lack of pavements along a fairly fast road so the car had to do a bit more mileage than planned. The kitchen/toilets/showers were all well kept and cleaned regularly. Toilet paper and paper hand towels were always well stocked. Overall a beautiful, comfortable and cosy place to stay that’s really good value for money.
