About Chalke Valley Camping
Sleep in top quality canvas bell tents or safari tents that are completely weatherproof and can comfortably sleep four people. It's perfect for groups of friends, families, or couples looking for some space! The accommodation provides mosquito-proof windows and on a sunny day just roll the sides up and feel the breeze from the downs on your skin. Settle down for a starry evening in your candle-lit tent with a glass of wine or beer, looking out to the beautiful scenery. Or if the fancy takes you, get seated around a blazing log fire to toast hotdogs and take in the panoramic views. Each tent has a comfy double bed and two single futons. Inside there are plenty of luxury touches, such as hot water bottles, some good reads, playing cards, and some morning essentials, like a French press. The site does not accept dogs due to nearby livestock, but there is parking adjacent to the site and each of the tents has a private campfire for evening cookouts. Due to the rural and idyllic nature of the site, there is no electricity, but that's no barrier, with gas supplied and solar electricity, plus the possibility of renting a generator for groups who are booking the entire site. The neighbouring village of Broad Chalke has a good pub, an excellent shop with local fare and a great cafe. There you also have the chance to buy fresh watercress and free range eggs at any time of day. There is a good selection of traditional pubs right down the valley and in the surrounding area. A beautiful walk over farmland and footpaths leads to the Horseshoe Inn, for some hearty meals and real ales.

Things to do on site and in the Salisbury area
The neighbouring village of Bowerchalke is a pretty, meandering village with a church and cricket playing field. On Saturday mornings there is a weekly market in the village hall where you can taste all the home-grown flavours of the area and stock up on anything you might need.
A visit to Salisbury is not to be missed, for the impressive Salisbury Cathedral and some great dining options. Not far outside, in Amesbury, you'll find the legendary Stonehenge circle. A bus service operates from Bowerchalke to Salisbury.
Further afield is the Jurassic Coast able to captivate tourists with its well-known Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. The setting makes for charming walking and hiking activities in fresh sea breezes.
The seaside town of Weymouth, Longleat House and Wildlife Park, Cheddar Gorge and attractions such as Bovington Tank Museum are all within an hour's drive of Chalke Valley. Wookey Hole caves deserve a full day, thanks to their immense range of activities, from crazy golf to 4D cinema experiences, it's a a real treat for families.
In the summer, don't miss these incredible local events:
- The Chalke Valley History Festival
- The Larmer Tree Festival
- The Great Dorset Steam Fair
- The Shaftesbury and Gillingham Show
