Fantastic location, very remote and stunning views. You have everything you need. Mike the host is really welcoming and is there when you need him. Cannot recommend this site enough. Great for walking.

When we got there, Mike was waiting to greet us and show us around. The place was so much better than expected, full sized proper beds, full sized proper sofa and dining table, great size kitchen and own bathroom/shower room just behind the tent, but accessible through the back. The site was silent, no sounds except wildlife and so little light pollution the stars at night were amazing to look at. Would definitely go again.

The facilities and support from Mike were excellent. The location is a perfect place to relax and get away from it all. I would recommend it for any couples and will be back if we are in the area again.

We had a great stay at Matilda's Field. The safari tent was well equipped and cosy to shelter us from the rain. Great facilities, idyllic, rural location, plenty of hikes from the door, which we would have enjoyed if the weather was better. Lake Vyrnwy is a 20 minute drive away and is absolutely stunning.

We had a lovely stay at Matilda's Field, Mike was very welcoming and made sure we had all we needed for our stay. The tent was great, with everything we needed. The honesty box was a great addition for anything we may have forgotten and we had 2 lovely evenings cooking on the fire pit and watching the stars. The site is lovely and quiet, with great views across the forest. The only slight downside for us was accessing the field, as a couple of our cars struggled slightly on the gravel forest roads, but otherwise we had a great time and would love to return, thanks.

Thank you for the review Sophie and we are glad you had a great time! When forestry works are taking place (as now) the tracks can become a little worn in places, hopefully this didn't distract from your enjoyment too much? Hope to see you again soon! Mike & Donna.

Perfect surroundings, fantastic safari tent with absolutely everything you need. The only down side was that my vehicle was heavily scratched down both sides of the vehicle due to very narrow tracks with overgrown brambles, trees and ferns.
Site's response
Thank you for taking the time to review our site, Robert. We're glad you had a good time, however, we are sorry your vehicle received some damage whilst in the area. I can assure you that our site and the designated forest roads are clear of overgrown brambles, trees and ferns. I assume that this happened on council roads around the area? Unfortunately this issue was not brought to our attention during your stay. If it was, we could have advised you on alternative routes and contacted Powys County Council highways department on your behalf. If you wish to make a complaint to the local council their telephone number is 01597 827465. We are rural and a lot of the roads are single track (as they are throughout many rural parts of Britain) and occasionally the local authority may not have cut hedges and verges as efficiently as they could. We take the health and well-being of our guests seriously and would have helped if we had known. Mike & Donna.

Absolutely wonderful retreat. Well equipped safari tents with all the creature comforts, whilst feeling like you are immersed in nature. We were 3 adults and 3 children, the youngest 2 and everyone was happy. The host was wonderful - helpful when we needed him and always on hand. What a wonderful experience, we can’t wait to go back.

First time staying in the safari tents and would really recommend for those who want the experience of staying in the outdoors, but with all the comforts. Mike was super friendly and kept us topped up with firewood and gave us local tips. The location is quite remote, so would recommend you take your supplies (there is also a handy honesty box in case you forget anything) but it's perfect for those who want to relax and be immersed in the Welsh countryside. Spent every evening drinking wine around the fire pit - bliss.
