A note from the site themselves...

We have been living and farming at Penlan since 1987, bringing up a family and milking a herd of over 200 dairy cows which kept us very busy! In 2012 we decided to branch out into tourism and share the beautiful area we live in.

We have had people from all over the world staying with us and have enjoyed hearing their stories.

Safari Tent - Red Kite Safari TentAug 2024

We had a great stay in one of the safari tents. We were in red kite which was situated at the back of a field, with the other safari tent towards the front of the field. Great views. Plenty of room outside. The hot tub was a nice touch but does take a good few buckets of wood to get it to the correct temperature and takes about 2hrs- We used it 3 times during our stay. Directly off the field is a gate to a shaded area with a brook and a swing for the kids to play on. There were bats around the area after dusk and we loved spotting them. There were sheep, horses, cows, cats and chickens too. You could orgsnise to collect fresh eggs in the morning. Yummy. The tent itself was a good size with everything you needed in it- beds were really comfortable. The shower was a bit fiddly to get hot water but Peter came over to explain the knack of doing it! Everything was provided in the kitchen, including tea, coffee, sugar and olive oil.....not forgetting the Welsh cakes. There was a folder of useful information of things to do in the local area. There's a barn area just up the drive from the tents with a ping pong table, swing, slide, trampoline and basketball hoop. There's also a washing machine and tumble drier but we didn't use those. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. It was quiet and in a good location for exploring the surrounding areas. We would definitely consider visiting again in the future.

A beautiful spot

Shepherd's Hut - Big Cwtch Shepherd HutJul 2024

A really relaxing stay in this lovely spot. Views were spectacular from Big Cwtch and everything was cosy, if a bit snug. Loved watching the morning sun from the hot tub.

Great stay however felt some improvements were needed

Shepherd's Hut - Big Cwtch Shepherd HutDec 2023

My partner and I arrived at the site and was greeted by the host who gave clear instructions on how to make it to the hut. However, the road was fairly uneven and had potholes throughout. Although suitable for my car, many may struggle. We parked with no issues and came into a space that had a prepared fire space which was a perfect setting for us beginning. Snacks upon arrival and provided toiletries and towels made an efficient and pleasant stay. The fire did die down and ran out of logs. However after a quick call, we were told to drive back up the uneven road to meet someone for more. The hot tub area was excellent. It was easy to use and a great style for anyone who wants to use it. We loved the space and the relaxation offered. We went to heat up food in the kitchen space however, this proved to be an issue. This space was appealing as it had this option and we wanted to bring some food that was cooked by us. However, due to the pot not registering with the induction style hob provided, it refused to heat up. After many failed attempts and google searches, we were forced to drive to a neighbouring town 25 minutes away. What was meant to be a heated up, home cooked meal turned into an hour round trip. Despite this mishap, it was an excellent stay and a fantastic option for anyone looking. Issues being the road and pot issue, we would recommend to those looking for a lovely night away overlooking the Welsh views.

We are sorry but there are no pets allowed as the campsite is on a working farm with cattle and sheep in the adjoining fields.
