Lovely woodland campsite in the South Downs, convenient for Worthing and Brighton. Fox Wood is a lovely site, with pitches in the woods. The choice of location with more undergrowth or in more open areas is very good. It's also great that each pitch has its own fire pit. The open field for games is very nice and plenty of kids were taking full advantage when we visited. There's also a slide and rope swing, which were very popular. The showers, toilets and washing area is clean, pleasant and there was plenty of hot water. The cost isn't cheap, but no complaints and I'll definitely consider returning.

Well! This site is amazing. It's just what we needed to teach my partner's son there's is more to life than technology (computers/games). It was perfect for his pre-birthday gift too. The site was safe, and it was just lovely to be with nature! Having such large pitches was fantastic and enough room between pitches. The purpose made firepits where ideal! The owners were so friendly and having a small shop was handy too! Showers and toilets were clean and looked after. Site was easy to find too. Thank you for a relaxing short stay. Looking forward to coming back again!

Quite a lot of road noise, but would only be a problem for the lightest of sleepers. Lovely stay otherwise.

Fox wood camp site was perfect. Choose to pitch in the woodlands side of the camp, there was a fire pit and some logs fortunately to sit on and use at the site we chose to pitch on. The camp site was peaceful, pleasant and got quieter by Sunday evening. Perfect place to go for a secluded getaway during the week. Facilities were really good with hot showers available and never had to wait to use any of the facilities, the check in was simple and easy staff were very helpful and informative upon arrival with all my questions answered.

We had a great stay at Foxwood Campsite. The best part for me is how much space each pitch has, you don't feel on top of other campers. We will definitely be back.

Thank you for your lovely review. Fox Wood is a safe family-focussed campsite with an emphasis being spacious. Forest glades with your own campfire for cooking and relaxing. See you again soon from all the Fox Wood Team.

We received a warm welcome when we arrived at Foxwood campsite, and friendly service throughout our stay. The facilities are spotlessly clean. The showers are warm and have good water pressure. The pitches are spacious and spread apart. We loved using the fire pit for our campfires! Our stay was fun, tranquil and relaxing. We will definitely return for our next camping trip.

We had a lovely stay at Fox Wood. The pitches have lots of tree cover, lots of space for tents and come with your own firepit. The staff are so friendly and helpful the shop sells wood, ice cream and marshmallows. Children can roam around safely as cars are parked away from pitches, which really gives it a safe feel and a feeling of being in the wild. The facilities are very tasteful and have great hot showers. It is a bit pricey for camping but you pay for the wooded atmosphere and the peace of mind that children are safe (as well as the facilities). One criticism would be the lack of division between general waste and recycling, which they didn't have. We would highly recommend!
Site's response
Hello and thank you for your lovely words. Just to let other campers know that we do and have always had separate bins for general waste and recyclable products. We recycle metal, glass, paper and plastics from all other waste. We apologise if this was not clear when you visited the rubbish area. Looking forward to seeing you again. Kindest, The Fox Wood Team

We loved the Fox Wood campsite. All staff were so friendly and helpful. Our bell tent was spacious, clean and very comfortable, set aside very privately, with easy parking. The outdoor dining area included a storage unit for our cooking equipment and food, plenty of seating around a dining table, camping chairs and a campfire. The path to the tent was lit up with fairy lights at night, which was a nice touch. The toilets were very clean, showers were really powerful with plenty of hot water. Washing-up sinks available outside and inside also had hot water and you could refill drinking water, too. The site shop provided all essential firewood and little treats. We had fun on a swing and a slide, played football and badminton on the green field, too. There's a lovely wood walk just a minute away and a country pub serving delicious food, for which you can get a discount if you are a Fox Wood guest. We really appreciated the early check-in and the late checkout, which allowed us to make the absolute most of our stay. Thank you for a perfect holiday.

Such a gorgeous woodland campsite. It looked pretty fully booked by the time we left. But you don't feel cramped or massively overlooked. It's very well thought out. There are lots of glades marked out by fire pits. We camped at the back on the left hand side. There is some faint road noise. But you'll be hard-pressed to avoid that. There is a small shop selling wood and ice lollies etc. Toilets are very well thought out. Each loo in the ladies has a kids seat hung on the wall. There is a bench to wait on. Indoor and outdoor washing up. Decent showers. My top tip is to get fairy lights for your tent. It gets quite dark at night and we wouldn't have found our tent if it weren't for the fairy lights. Kids loved the rope swing. A second one would be even better as there was a huge queue on the Friday night.

Lovely campsite, you can choose your own pitch from sunny meadows or woodlands. Plenty of parking and wheelbarrows to move all your belongings to your pitch - if you opt for one deeper in the woods they offer a buggy service! At the main entrance all the facilities and shop can be found. Indoor & outdoor washing up facilities with large sinks and plenty of space to dry up. Variety of washing facilities- single cubicle showers & larger family rooms all easily accessible. Toilet block is clean & well maintained. The pitches are of a great size, plenty of space for a large tent & shelter, the fire pit is a useful addition that contains fire perfectly for cooking purposes or just for marshmallow toasting! The owners are always on hand to aid with any questions & offer their help as needed. The play area is well maintained with a great rope swing & slide which the kids spent hours on!

Had a lovely stay at Fox Wood, just what we wanted. Lots of space and privacy amongst the other campers. Children had a safe space to run and play. Back to the simple life for a few days. Perfect 👍 Very friendly and clean. A couple of nearby pubs and supermarkets, a short drive for anything needed. Lovely campfires 🔥

Good service and facilities, kids liked the circus show as well. For most of the pitch areas (I think there were around 45 spots), you could see the car park with lots of cars. Almost all the tents were located around the car park. You can also hear the noise coming from the main road, which is very close to the campsite. I think we were expecting more privacy and silence and I think it was expensive for the reasons above. If you like camping closer to other people than we do, Fox Wood Camping might suit you.
Site's response
Thank you for your review and feedback, Hayri. I can only apologise that your experience/stay here at Fox Wood did not meet your expectations. I am however, a little bit surprised by some of your comments and therefore, for the benefit of other potential visitors who may be thinking of visiting the forest here at Fox Wood for the first time, I will address some of the points that you raised. I am pleased that you found the services clean and tidy. and that the staff were polite and helpful towards you - thank you. We maintain our facilities to the highest of standards and would like all of our campers to feel like their washing, dishwashing and showering is as close to being at home as you can get - we literally clean everything 12 times a day minimum to maintain cleanliness. Moving to your comment about the cars - I do not think anyone has ever raised this as an issue before. The forest here has a central track that runs directly through the middle of the wood (and this is where all the cars park). It must be noted though that the parking stops just over halfway into the wood and it was designed like this so that our visitors' children can explore the forest beyond, without ever having to go near the car parking track (as a huge swathe of forest wraps around the parking) which provides the mums and dads with peace of mind that their children will not get run over whilst exploring in the woods, or simply running around, making friends or enjoying the epic rope swing that has put us on the map. I notice that you also mention that you felt you had a lack of privacy - with regards to this point I would disagree with you as each of our fire pits are a considerable distance away from the next. Although you can see your nearest neighbours, there is a large separation between each of the camping areas. It should also be known that you visited us over a bank holiday weekend, whereon we were fully booked and even on our busy weekends, we always purposefully leave multiple fire pits empty so that the last visitor to arrive still has plenty of camping areas to choose from. We aim for everyone to really enjoy their stay. You also mentioned road noise - we are approximately 200m away from a dual carriageway (the A27). However, our location is at the bottom of a wooded valley, a considerable distance from the road, with another farm between us and the road. I will however concede that on some occasions, if the wind is blowing towards the north, that the faint hum of tyres/road noise can be heard. Usually this sound is overpowered by the sounds of laughter from the children or the chatting of friends chilling out around their campfires with a glass of wine or beer. We do appreciate that some people are more sound sensitive than others and therefore once the forest quietens down at night and everyone has gone to bed, you may be able to hear a little road noise and because of this, we sell high quality ear plugs to ensure that if you are a light sleeper, that a pair of these will help you receive a sound nights sleep :) Our site is a gem and 60% of our customer base are repeat customers. The forest here is set positioned at the edge of literally 10 square miles of South Downs National Park, full of footpaths (and no roads) to explore, perfect for biking and walking. We are also located within 10 minutes drive from the beach and additionally, Fox Wood is within walking distance from two lovely country pubs, with great beer gardens which are both dog friendly (5 minutes walk to the Fox) and a 20 minute gentle stroll from the footpath directly opposite our entrance through sheep filled fields to the World's End. You also discussed that we are expensive. Our prices are certainly not the cheapest but we are reasonable and there are lots that charge considerably more. Yes, you can get cheaper, but our beautifully maintained forest offers the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. Regardless of our differences of opinion on certain points discussed, I do wish you the very best and hope that you find a location which more suits your needs next time and can only apologise that Fox Wood did not work for you. All the best and kind regards, Ian.

Fab family campsite. We spent the weekend there with our 2 year old, 3 month old and our dog. Lovely plots in the wood give you a sense of privacy. Great facilities, all kept very clean. Also a great base for exploring, we spent a day in the South Downs and an afternoon at the beach. Definitely will be back!

We booked a last-minute camping trip to Fox Wood and we're so glad we did! For two days during the heatwave, we enjoyed the shade of the forest where the individual pitches are located. Each pitch was spacious and we never felt overlooked or too close to other campers. The facilities were brilliant - clean and modern toilets, fresh drinking water, and warm showers. Sarah was a fantastic host who gave us a warm welcome. We would definitely return!

Great woodland site. Pitches are very widely spaced and so you never feel crowded. We liked the fact that cars are confined to the parking area, and while having to transport all kit to the more distant pitched could be an issue for some, there are ample wheelbarrows provided and this will be fine for anyone who has a bit of festival experience! Site is off-grid, and quiet - no amplified music etc, so ideal for families and those looking for a quiet break. Facilities are good, clean and functional. Only issue for us was a surprising amount of road noise from the nearby A27, and some aircraft traffic, so earplugs might help. All in, a lovely place, felt super safe and we loved the fire pits. Would be especially brilliant for groups with younger kids.
Site's response
Thank you for your lovely review Matthew - so pleased you enjoyed your woodland visit and enjoyed the space between pitches :) Sorry to hear that the road noise detracted from your stay a little - for most it's not an issue as the road noise is a fairly distant sound and generally only audible if the breeze blows in the direction of the roadway. Not sure about aeroplanes? We are not under a flight path here - there is the odd occasional aeroplane from time to time - Shoreham Airport (a private airfield) is located 10 miles from here - so maybe you visited when every plane owner decided to take to the skies? I guess this would be ideal flying weather if you owned a light aircraft :) Take it easy and we will look forward to welcoming you back to Fox Wood next time x

This is an awesome family campsite with just the best layout for camping. We have been here so many times now - WOW - AMAZING - AWESOME! The rope swing is amazing and my children just spend all their time there making friends and getting lost in the chatter with other children. Or off den building in the woods. The campsite is contained so you know that the children can run around and be safe. My kids don't mention their phones or tablets whilst we're at Fox Wood and I've actually stopped packing them when we come here. And the moment we pack up and leave, they want to plan their next return trip. You can choose your own area of the woodland to pitch your tent and each glade under the trees has its own fire pit which is a large metal square to contain your fire. Every camp pitch is under the trees, but you get a mixture of sun and shade in most of them. Each glade is suitable for gatherings with friends and family. Just book with a "group name" and the managers will reserve an area of a suitable size for everyone in that name to gather. I think you have to be a minimum of 4 families to get a group area reserved. We've been on our own and found our own pitch and we've been with larger groups and been in reserved areas. And been equally pleased with our camping location every single time. There is a large sunny meadow, which has a couple of spaces for campervans at the edge with their campfires tucked away inside the forest. We haven't stayed in those places before, but they look like they have the best of both worlds. The meadow for the lovely view and the secret campfire zone for the evening privacy. The large meadow is great for picnics and ball games or just a bit of sunbathing while the kids run off for adventuring. We had the best game of rounders a few years ago after another (unknown) mummy went around gathering as many people as possible and we still have friends from that event to this day. Across from the meadow are the campsite facilities, with everything you need. Hot showers, hot water for washing up and super clean flushing toilets. They used to compost in the early days, but they upgraded them to flush toilets a couple of years ago. They have a small tuck shop at reception which sells everything that you need for a campfire and some sweets and ice-creams. The prices of everything is really good and found the bags of logs are much larger than the ones you get from the petrol stations anyway, so we never pack logs as it takes up valuable vino and beer space in the car :-) For anything forgotten there is a Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys (with an Argos too) all about 10 mins drive away. We've eaten at both The Fox and The Worlds End pubs. They both have great food and are super close to walk to. The Fox is closer (10 min walk) and has a great climbing frame and slide if you have smaller children. But The Worlds End (20 min walk) seems to have a slighter better menu if you have dietary requirements. We prefer The Worlds End, but really based on the fact they cater for gluten free for one of our children and they seem to have a more varied menu. Plus we like the slightly longer walk across the fields rather the walk along the lane from the campsite up to The Fox. But like I said, both are great pubs with great gardens and good food. Finally it would be only fair to mention that Fox Wood have some really cool events that are supplied for free for some of the September weekends. We hope to make the last event in September this year with a circus skills workshop and an end of season fire display. I'm not wishing the summer away, but the kids are super excited about getting to camp that weekend as a bit of treat for starting the new school year. I've been promising the managers Ian and Sarah that I would leave a review for years, so hope I've done it justice. Sorry its taken a while.... but being honest I've always wanted to keep this place a bit of a secret.

Wow - What a 5 star review ! Thank you. So pleased you have enjoyed another years camping trip at Fox Wood - and thank you again for writing such a detailed and wonderful review with regards to the site. We all look forward to welcoming you back in September - I agree the September Circus is great fun and the afternoon children's circus workshop is great fun - however my personal favourite is the fire display that the circus troop put on for the campers at dusk in the meadow - all the campers bring their chairs to the meadow and enjoy a display of fire juggling, poi and whole host of other entertaining circusry (if that is a word :) Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you all back to the Forest in September x
