Nut Plat Retreat's two lovingly restored shepherd's huts offer glamping in the heart of Kent's stunning countryside. Each van has totally private facilities and is set in its own delightfully peaceful space. Although it feels like the middle of nowhere, it's easily reached from London. With country walks, and a traditional British pub almost on the doorstep, it's perfect for couples looking forward to some together time.

About Nut Plat Retreat

Set in an ancient Nut Plat (orchard of cobnut trees), each of the two shepherd's hut living vans (Ransoms and Bomford) has been carefully restored with a nod to the 21st century. Feather pillows and duvets, cotton bed linen, and stripy towels add a little luxury, while the private camp kitchens are equipped with all the cooking basics. In autumn and early spring, you'll have a wood burning stove to keep you warm and cosy. And outside there's a fantastic fire pit with as many logs as you can burn to enjoy long starry nights. Each van also has a full size double bed, fold down table, private gas shower, Weber BBQ and private compost loo. Treat yourself on arrival with a 'cook yourself' breakfast basket, containing the site's own hen's eggs, as well as local free range sausages and bacon (or a non-meat version of seasonal berries, yoghurt and muesli). Either option comes with local pressed apple or pear juice, bread and honey.

Open from 17 March to 13 November

Nut Plat Retreat is ideal for...

Couples

Peace and quiet

There are 2 accommodation options on-site

Bomford

Built around the turn of the last century, Bomford was used to house the workers who made local roads and lanes - and originally towed behind a steam roller.

Ransoms

Ransoms was rescued from eBay when this beautiful 1900's living van was advertised. It was rotten as a peach then, but has now been lovingly restored and is far more luxurious than its original makers ever imagined!

Hopefully no horrid rules but please don't smoke in the vans - and no amplified music to upset our neighbours.

You can do what you like here, kick back and enjoy the peace and quiet, go for a lovely walk in the beautiful countryside (the Greensand Way for instance) or bring your own bike and travel further afield. The vans have scrabble and monopoly, or you can head out to one of the local pubs.

This base is on the edge of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so the scenery doesn't get much better! Or for animal lovers, the site's orphan lambs help keep the grass down by grazing the plat and there are chickens too. You'll find horses and cattle on land on the other side of Roughway Lane which visitors are welcome to say hello to.

If visiting historic properties is your thing, you can walk across the fields to Ightam Mote or Old Soar. A little further afield are the lovely gardens at Sissinghurst, Pashley Manor, or Knole House and its lovely deer park.

The stunning spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is only half an hour's drive away, or travel a little further for the rightly famed Kent coastal towns of Whitstable, Ramsgate or Margate.

Camber Sands and Rye are brilliant too (one of the Cinque Ports).
