The site itself was lovely, I booked a bell tent as well as two grass pitches as I didn't know about there being multiple tents allowed per pitch. The person at check in was very nice, and the surrounding area has some nice long walks too. Overall, I recommend, the only issue is that public transport doesn't come close to the site, so if you don't have a car with you, it'll be a decently long walk to get to/from the site.
Loved it!

The location is lovely, just outside Weymouth, far away enough to be in nature but close enough for convenience. The bell tent was good value for money but I feel that charging £5 per car per night is a little unreasonable given there are no other transport links. The logs were expensive compared to other sites we have been to and the food quite pricey. The facilities were basic but okay. Don't let the compost loos put you off. The showers were lovely with shampoo provided. The washing up facilities are basically 2 metal troughs, which did the job but it was unfortunate that food congregated at one end and this was not cleaned out. There was not a freezer for ice packs but as this is a pop up site, that didn't surprise us, but would need consideration for a longer stay. The live music was very good and the pop up bar had a festival feel which made the weekend more of an experience.
Lovely location but poor value for money

When I booked this, I read a number of reviews which all talked about the great service, staff, food tent and live music. The advert also said there was a café, so when we arrived to find a large field with a shed for reception, long drop toilets and portable shower cubicles, we actually wondered if we were in the right place. We had deliberately avoided booking the cheaper camping options due to lack of facilities. The man at the shed didn't check our reservation and just pointed us in the direction of the pitches with no other information. There was no clearly marked drinking water provision and nobody to ask when I went back to the shed, so I had to ring the number on the door to find this. The showers were clean but draughty and lukewarm water, so on anything other than a glorious summer day (which thankfully it was) this would have been a let-down. The washing up facilities were open air with water just slopping into the field so again, in anything but perfect weather would have been unpleasant. The location was beautiful although very exposed and windy. Having just come from a campsite charging the same amount which had fantastic facilities including sheltered pitches, charging points for electrical items, a café, shop and indoor washing and toilet facilities, this was a big let down and certainly did not feel like value for money.

Great small campsite with very clean facilities. Friendly and helpful staff. The live music and food and bar stands made for a great atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.

Booked this campsite last minute for a night over the August bank holiday weekend. We booked for location, price and being dog friendly. We took 2 dogs and it was a lovely space for them to run in. Facilities were great, view was lovely. Would recommend!
It was amazing - dry pitches and great views!

Excellent hosts, we were amazed by live band playing by the bar and grilled food. Amazingly great atmosphere for all - kids, parents and grandparents. No street noise, very quiet, fire pitches so romantic. Also great connection to get to see towns nearby.

The site is just 10 mins away from the beach and has a fantastic view over the sea. It has a great vibe during the evening with a nice BBQ, bar and live music. We wish the toilets weren't that basic, however they have been cleaned every day, which was a plus. Absolutely recommend it and will be back at some point.

We found this campsite during a quick search of Weymouth campsites - and we only chose it because it was the cheapest! However it was a great find and we will definitely return. The campsite were really helpful when I phoned ahead of time to ask a question. They charged per person, per tent and per car, not per size of pitch. We arrived and were greeted by staff who gave us wristbands and explained how the site works. There is a food tent which provides breakfast and dinner and the food was really good! There is a bar which served alcoholic drinks as well as hot drinks and soft drinks. All really reasonably priced, I enjoyed a glass of Pimms in the sun! There is live music on a Saturday and Sunday night and yet the site is very considerate, with all music stopping way before midnight. There are toilets, with toilet paper provided, and showers all around the site which are all kept clean. There are sinks with washing up liquid provided. We could choose where to pitch - whether to use the louder or quieter field and whether to pitch at the noisier or quieter end of each field. There are bell tents to rent as well. The location of this site was great. Brilliant views of the sea and the countryside. The only reason I gave location 4 stars is because you do need to drive to get to the seafront or local shops etc. But it suited our family perfectly for a weekend away in Weymouth. This campsite is very well thought through and we will definitely be returning.

A warm welcome form the team, a busy weekend but still plenty of space to pitch. Live music in the evening, with a well stocked bar and some unique South African food (BBQ + tasty curries). Not super quiet on site, as a lot of small children but wasn't loud enough to effect our stay. Would happily return.

Absolutely loved this site. Back to basics! It's what camping is all about!! Set on a hill overlooking stunning views of the countryside and the sea. Lovely walking areas.10 min drive to nearest beach (1.30/2hrs) walk! Eco toilets, lovely hot showers, these were tended to every day. Little bar set up with a covered area and hot food served too. Fire pit and barbecue allowed onsite. Washing up facilities . Plenty of space for children to run around.

I was looking for a cheap campsite close to the coast and this campsite couldn't have been a better find! For the money, I wasn't expecting much but to have a bar, BBQ and live music was very unexpected. Great staff and the facilities were great. I would give more than five stars if possible. Looking to go back very soon.

We had a really nice evening and day at the Donkey Down campsite, everything you could want is there. Very friendly people, great views, good pitches and everything made easy for our stay there. We are looking forward to going back shortly.

Unfortunately we only stayed one night and left pretty early in the morning due to a storm. The site was lovely. Clean toilets and showers. Beautiful views. Friendly and helpful staff. The food van that came looked good but we had taken our own food. The only downside was the quantity of stinging nettles to avoid when pitching and moving about in shorts. Would come again.

My husband (yet to be) and I turned up to the campsite and were greeted at reception by a lovely woman. Clear instructions allowed us to find a lovely space to pitch our tent. The whole campsite was very lovely and provided enough space between tents for us to enjoy our own company. By reception, there was a lovely acoustic band playing who were very enjoyable on the Friday evening. We purchased a fantastic alcoholic beverage and sat by the campfire, enjoying our first night. This was very prominent throughout the rest of our stay, allowing a very enjoyable weekend. The only downside I have would be that the grass was incredibly long due to the rain that the campsite experienced throughout Friday and Saturday. This meant the long grass was very wet and therefore water entered our shoes, leading to a partially unenjoyable experience. If the grass was mowed/cut, it would've been a perfect holiday. I would thoroughly recommend staying at this campsite, it was an incredible experience and fantastic value for money.

It rained from the moment we got there and through most of the night - windy too. We had a small tent and bivvi bag between 3. Could have been an unhappy time. However, the friendly staff were on hand to serve hot chocolate, then a BBQ team showed up. My two boys were happy playing cards under the site's sheltered awning until late. If it had been sunny and the were band able to play, it would have been incredible! We'll go back: unfussy, good quality camping.
