Little Leat campsite is basic but beautiful, just 15 minutes from stunning beaches such as Sennen and Gwynver. The pitches are sheltered from the wind and the sun by trees and hedges. Sit and relax surrounded by nature, listening to the stream or stargazing from the campfire next to your tent.

About Little Leat

Picturesque off-grid family friendly campsite in a secluded location on the Land's End Peninsula. There is plenty to explore on site, with a stream, several ponds with lily-pods, woodland and ornamental gardens, and countryside views down the valley. If you are new to camping or don't have room in the car for all your holiday gear, why not hire one of the fully equipped glamping tents (ready tents) available from late July through August. They're fully set up and ready for you to walk in and make yourself at home as soon as you arrive. There are six camping pitches, five grass pitches for tents, and one all-weather pitch for a small campervan. All pitches are flat and level but different in size and shape. They are defined, and separated from each other, by trees and hedges. The five grass pitches have their own fire pit. For the campervan pitch fires must kept in a brazier or the like. Firewood and kindling can be bought onsite, but foraging for wood will not be tolerated. It's a peaceful and nature-rich campsite, so you might just want to chill out on your pitch. But it is also ideally located in West Cornwall for you to discover the nearby beaches, some just a few minutes away by car, including sandy Sennen, the turquoise waters of Gwynver, and Porthcurno just below the open air Minack Theatre. Other beaches like Portherras, Porthchapel, and Pedn Vounder can only be reached by a short walk from the car park. Dogs are allowed at Little Leat, but must be kept on a lead and cleaned-up after.

Open from 29 July to 25 August

A note from the site themselves...

We bought the land at Little Leat in 2009 with a strong desire to do something positive for the environment. We set out to plant trees, grow food for our family, and plant more trees. The aim was, and still is, to garden with nature, not against it.

The ten acre site was once fields of grass that were sprayed twice a year with nitrogen to force as much hay production as possible, now the whole site is quite wooded and we are still planting trees... Of the thousands of trees we have planted, many were specifically to provide food and habitat for wildlife, while others are intended to provide food, fuel and materials.

The vegetable garden is made of 'no dig' raised beds, it may look a bit unkempt but that's because we leave a lot of it fallow in-between crops. Little Leat is where we connect with nature through all the seasons and in all weathers, it has become like a regenerative therapy for us.

We look forward to Spring and Summer because that's when we get to camp there ourselves and welcome visitors to share in all that this fantastic place has to offer.

FAQ

You are welcome to arrive at any time between 1pm and 10pm on the first date of your holiday. You must leave by 10am on the departure date for ready tents, and noon for camping pitches.

Sorry, this site does not allow dogs.

Both BBQs and campfires are allowed, however there are a couple of rules. Open fires are only permitted in raised fire pits provided by the site. Barbecues must also be raised off the ground, it is all to protect the grass and for health and safety!

Sorry but the site is not suitable for young children or infants so no one under five may stay.

If staying in one of the glamping tents you are welcome to bring a gazebo and pup tent, just please do select these when booking. Sorry, but gazebos and pup tents aren't allowed on the non electric grass pitches.

The campsite is a mile away from St Just, a lively little town with pubs, cafes, greengrocers, butchers, supermarket, takeaway food, bicycle hire...everything you need really. It takes 20 minutes to walk from Little Leat to St Just, or five minutes by car. Very easy to stop off in the town to pick up supplies on your way out to the beach, or on your way back to the campsite.

For beach-goers, West Cornwall boasts some of Cornwall's finest beaches, including Portherras, Gwynver, Porthcurno, and Sennen. There is surfboard hire and a surfing school at Sennen.

For walkers, you can follow the stream down Kenidjack Valley for about a mile, passing the ruins of tin mining buildings, to where the coast path crosses the valley. Here you can turn left towards Land's End via Cape Cornwall, Priests Cove and Cot Valley.

Or, if you turn right towards St Ives you will be treated to some of the most stunning cliff top views in the world. This part of the coast was used as a filming location for Poldark.

The high cliffs are dramatic, and the ruined remains of the tin mining that Cornwall is famous for are simply awe inspiring. Alternatively walk up stream from the campsite to the moorland with its stone circle and other prehistoric monuments, topped by the impressive Carn that gives Kenidjack Valley its name.

Other nearby activities:

  • National Trust Cape Cornwall (10 minutes)
  • Trewidden Garden (15 minutes)
  • National trust Trengwainton Garden (15 minutes)
  • Mousehole Coasteering Adventures (20 minutes)
  • The Minack Theatre (25 minutes)
